Sheba Potts-Wright - "You've Been Using Me"

No one wants to feel used.  Sheba found out that he had been cheating on her ever since they had been together.  It's a horrible feeling but you've got to do like Sheba did - don't let the situation keep you down!
You've been using me, making a fool of me. But now I'm moving
on with my life!

Tyrone Davis - "Heart Failure"

I've heard this song twice today on two different southern soul stations so I had to pass it along.  It's a Tyrone Davis classic - I love his ballads.

But I've been loving you too long now to love somebody new.  It would take more than I've got, girl, to say that we are through....
All I need is you, all you need is me!
Enjoy!

Mr. David - "Slide On"

It amazes me at the number of young, talented southern soul artists that are out here.  My goal is to get main stream music to play our music so everyone can hear what we can do.  That being said, here's Mr. David's Slide On.  It's another fabulous dance song that's popular all through the south - it's good music, clean, and all about having some fun.

Hey now everybody gather around
Mr. David ‘bout to show you how it’s going down
Put your drink on the table and grab a partner
And get out on the dance floor it’s time to party
Well now I don’t know what you came to do
But when I left my house I had on the sliding shoes
Now I say pepper to pepper, well, and salt to salt
If you can’t do the electric slide it’s your own damn fault

Chorus
Slide on baby
Come on and get yourself on the floor
Slide on baby
Slide on with your bad self
Slide on baby
Come on and get yourself on the floor
Slide on baby
Slide on with your bad self

Well it’s 2:00 in the morning and you’re having a ball
Cause you’re doing the electric slide out at the hole in the wall
All you needed was some vodka and some cranberry juice
And you hit the dance floor and you start to turn it loose
You can slide with a partner or slide by yourself
Do it with the one you came with or somebody else
All you fellows acting shady while you’re out on the floor
Guess what, Jody gonna get your woman and slide on out the door

Chorus

Said Mel Waiters, he's gonna slide
And Ms. Betty Wright, she's gonna slide
Jesse James, he's gonna slide
Ms. Millie Jackson, she's gonna slide
Sir Charles Jones, he's gonna slide
And Denise LaSalle, she's gonna slide
Bobby Rush ya’ll, he's gonna slide with it
And Mr. David, I’m gonna slide with it
Slide on with your bad self!!

Chuck Strong - "Southern Girl"

I need a down home southern girl to put some sugar on my eggs and grits. Um, Chuck, I have to say no to the sugar on the grits - that just makes it cream of wheat.  And sugar on eggs? Oh no.  But, I really like this song because he's right, there's nothing like a southern girl!!!

Lomax - "Swing It"

I love this song!!!  Check out his bio below; he has accomplished a lot and has some fantastic experience.

All day long been thinking of you
I can’t wait to see you
I want to hug, kiss you and squeeze you, too
Tonight you’re number one
And here’s what we’re gonna do
We’re gonna have some fun
Oh we’re gonna dance till the morning comes
Slip on that black dress
The one that looks so good on you

Chorus
Swing it to the right, then back to the left
Let me see them hips wind
Bring it to a low grind
Swing it to the right, then back to the left
Let me see them hips wind
Bring it to a low grind

Been making promises that I didn’t keep
Tonight is just you and me baby
And no one could ever take your place
I like the way you make me feel
When we’re dancing close
So let’s get dressed
And go out to our favorite place
Oh the one I like the most
So go on and slip on that black dress, baby
I want to see you do that dance

Chorus

You know we’re gonna swing…
Oh slip on that black dress
You know I want to see you do that dance

Chorus
Here is his bio from CD Baby (http://www.cdbaby.com/artist/LOMAX4).

In 2004, he began working on my first solo Gospel project.

Lomax’s gospel project led to unexpected opportunities. Through his gospel project, his musical artistry was introduced to the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (NCBW). He performed for that group on several occasions and was invited to participate as a musical guest the unveiling of the bust of Sojourner Truth in Washington, DC at the US Capital Visitors’ Center. He was blessed with the honor of personally meeting and speaking with our First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama.

Ever looking to broaden his musical horizons, Lomax began his “ Southern Soul” experience as a guitar player on Tony Troutman’s well-know “Southern Soul” hit, “Your Man Is Home Tonight. While a member of the Mel Waiter’s band, Lomax has taken the opportunity to collaborate with Mel on several musical projects that are destined for musical success. These include writing and producing the music for Mel Waiter’s new single, “She’s Got No Curfew.” Lomax has also produced and performed on the music of Chandra Calloway’s new single “Ask Me what You Want” Jimmy-Jai and Charles Wilson all performers on Mel Waiters’ new record label, Brittney Records.

You are invited to enjoy “Put It All Up There,” Lomax’s latest, hot new “ Southern Soul” released on KAL Entertainment Inc. “Put It All Up In There” is written by Lomax Spaulding IV and produced and performed by Lomax Spaulding III. This ‘sure to please’ release has the makings of a “Southern Soul” classic and has also allowed Lomax to be nominated for “New Male Vocalist of the Year” by the Jus Blues Music Foundation.  Be on the lookout for Lomax’s hot, new (CD) (album) entitled “Life Lessons.

Lee Shot Williams - "She Made A Freak Out Of Me"

You can tell that the late Lee Shot Williams enjoyed singing the blues. Listen to how she put something on him and made a freak out of him - had him doing things he never dreamed of doing! LOL You know how that is!!

You must have been raised on collard greens, neckbones, and blackeye peas, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, meatloaf and yes, even more collard greens because they don't make 'em like that no more!

Will Easley - In Concert - Your Love Amazes Me

Will Easley performed in Camden, Alabama, on August 3 and put on a fantastic show.  One of the best things I love about a blues/southern soul show is that the artists often mingle in the crowd.  He is a very down-to-earth and kind man and even took the time to take pictures with me and my sister, Debra.  He's a great performer and is worth seeing - go whenever you get a chance!
Simply awesome!

Tucka - In Concert - Candy Land

This is the finest, coolest, most talented young man I've ever seen!  I saw him at a blues show on Saturday night in Camden, Alabama, and if you thought I loved him before,  I'm head over heels now!  I know I've posted this before, but I just can't get enough of Candy Land, one of the many songs he sang that night.

Tucka!!!!!
I can't wait to buy his CD!

Jeff Floyd - "You Had It All"

There is so much talent from the newer generation of southern soul artists. These guys (and ladies) are keeping our music alive! Jeff Floyd is one of those artists that produces hit after hit; you can listen to his CDs from start to finish.

In "You Had It All," this man gave his woman everything but she didn't appreciate it and didn't want him. After she treats him so badly and lets him go, he moves on and finds someone else.  And wouldn't you know, she now wants him back.  He even had two jobs to take care of her!  He's done his time and now he wishes her the best and nothing less.  He found a new love, is doing well and he's finally happy.  She had it all.

Enjoy!!

Stan Mosley - "Man Up"

Don't you admire the man who admits that he's not doing what he's supposed to do and will start doing right? You probably say that he should have been doing these things all along and although you may be right, you have to appreciate the fact that he realizes his mistakes and will man up and do the right thing.  Oh yes! I love Stan Mosley!!

We don't go nowhere, you know why
Cause I ain't go not money
She's tired of all my excuses
About my raggedy car
That ain't never running
I've got to find me a job yes I do
Anywhere I don't care
I can do better if I just apply myself
Oh I've got to do my share
Well it's time for me to make a change
She's got a right, a right to complain

Chorus
I got to man up, do right by you
I got to man up, do what I got to do
I got to man up, do right by you
I got to man up, do what I got to do

You say you're tired of doing without
You say I've got to pull my weight
You say you can't pick up the slack no more
It feels like you're pulling a freight
I've been slacking off letting you pay all the bills, yes I have
I just been a lazy bum (so sorry baby)
i know i can be a better man for you honey
It ain't no half stepping I've to get myself on the one
Well it's time for me to put all that bs aside
Time to put this man up, this man and his pride

Chorus

Sometimes a man's got to do what a man's got to do

Chorus

I got to man up and do right by you!
