Peggy Scott is one of those women who keeps it real. She knows that her man has a chick on the side but she says that she knows that all of his money is going to her and so if that girl wants a broke man, she can help herself. I know that's right!!
You've been sneakin' around with my man
But you don't have to sneak
I know all about you, girl
You see, I cash his check every week
He don't have a dime to give you or no one else
So if you want that broke man
Honey, help yourself
He's a lousy husband but I tell you he's a real great dad
He's a real good provider
I tell you two out of three sure ain't bad
Girl if it wasn't you he's seeing
It would be someone else
So if you want that broke man
Honey, help yourself
I know where you live
See, I followed him over to your house
So in case there's an emergency
I know where to find the louse
And from the look of your place
Girlfriend, you sure could use some help
You see I know all you're getting from him
Is bip, bam, thank you 'mam
You see I've been asked
Why don't you just leave him
But you don't understand
When you're 38 with four children
It's impossible to find a man
I don't stand in line for food stamps
And we're not on welfare
So whatever else he does
Honey, I don't really care
If you can use this poor man
Go ahead and help yourself
You can have him on Monday
You can have him on Tuesday
You can have him on Wednesday
You can have him on Thursday
But on Friday he better bring that check on home to me
He ain't got a dime to give you, girl
Early Saturday morning if you want that broke man
Go on and help yourself
If you can use him
Help yourself
If you want that nothin', girlfriend, go on, go on and help yourself...
If you want to love him for free, let me tell you, that's alright with me!
You won't be the first - you sure won't be the last!!!
Enjoy!

I heard this song about a year ago and talk about love at first sound! It always makes me get up and dance. Hit the floor and go for what you know, put your hands on your knees and drop it low!!!
Just roll baby roll!
It's my favorite Lamorris Williams song.

I haven't posted Johnnie Taylor in awhile and thought I'd pass this song along. He was one of the coolest southern soul singers ever.
JT said this guy would always stop by to see his woman. She made it clear that she knew him way before they got together and she also claimed that he was just like a brother. But as time went along, he realized that things weren't right and it all finally started to click and make sense. He realized that her friends knew about it and they just smiled in his face. And then some of them even lied for her... he said it was a downright disgrace and it just wasn't right. He had his suspicions but his heart just wouldn't listen. Isn't that what happens sometimes? We know, deep down, that something isn't right but we look the other way in the hope that it isn't true and that things will get better. Follow your instincts!!
You were doing me, you were doing him, and it didn't just begin; too close for comfort.
This is something a little different from southern soul but it is outstanding music. I'd like to hear these guys live one day. I may be a little prejudiced, but a band's not a band unless it has some horns!!! (smile) Good music!
Thank you Rob Robinson!

Ain't nothing wrong with me, just jingle my bell. Here's a live version of this cute song.
Ah Carl Marshall, sing it! He had a stroke a few months ago but I hear he's doing ok. Thank you Lord!
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Oh, what a lonely way to be - I wish I had someone to spend Christmas with me! Ronnie Lovejoy's voice is so distinctive and this is such a beautiful blues song.
I love this song!

It's Christmas baby and I want you to jingle my bell. Ms. Jody can sing! She has a couple of Christmas songs and I really like this one - sounds like the blues!
Now this is a classic!!!!! No words are necessary for this absolutely perfect song. I used to have this on a cassette tape (yes, I'm old school) and would rewind and rewind this song to death (and listen to dee jay Rockin' Geter, Selma's soul leader talk his way thru the song).
O.B. is so sad in this song - he even asks Santa to help him out! Everybody's jolly and he's as sad as he can be. He says it's kind of strange for him to be sitting on Santa's knee, after all he's a full grown man but he has a request and needs Santa's help. Since his baby left him around the 4th of July, all he's done is sit around and done nothing but cry. That's a mighty long time for anyone to cry!!!
Somebody's gonna be lonely this Christmas I hope that it's not gonna be me cause I've got me somebody who really loves me and this time with my woman is where I'll be. Oh, how I love T. K. Soul!!!
All I want is you for Christmas!

Ahh, this is an oldie but goodie! I want you to rock me like my back ain't got no bone! Roy C is still kicking it so go see him perform if you get a chance.
Peggy says that as fine as her man may be, it's not worth it for her to put up with his dirt. Can you blame her?
Chorus
I’m cleaning
house, I’m throwing out this dirty man Girls, I’m
cleaning house, I’m throwing out this dirty man
A woman has
got to be strong
When her man
is weak You throw
away a queen he’s got at home For some
tramp in the streets Phone numbers
falling from his pockets Lipstick's on
his shirts I’m drawing
the line this time I’m gonna stop it I’m taking
no more dirt I’m sweeping
the floors and I’m keeping them spic and span And what I can’t
use I’m throwing in the garbage can
Chorus
No respect is
all that I get from this dirty man
I’ve done
without things that I need For as long
as I can He thinks
that I am totally stupid and I can’t let him go His bags are
packed this time I’m gonna fool him I’m changing
the locks on the doors I thought it
would hurt but I feel no pain I’ve wasted
a lot of clean water on this dirty man
Chorus
I’m sweeping
the floors and I’m keeping them spic and span
And what I can’t
use I’m throwing in the garbage can
Chorus He’s the dirtiest
man I’ve ever seen He makes Dirty
Harry look like Mr. Clean
Chorus
Just like Mary
the cleaning lady I’m throwing out everything that’s shady
I have been an Al Green fan since the early 70's. I fell in love with him and his music back then and I'm still in love with him. (smile) I saw him perform when I was a teenager and was fortunate to see him a couple of years ago. He's still great. I used to listen to his albums and would play each and every song on one side and then flip it over and play everything on the other side. I love the fact that he's still performing and it's really cool to hear him partner with southern soul artists like Lamorris Williams (see my posts dated 2/6/2012 and 4/2/2012). The song "Simply Beautiful" was just that - simply beautiful. Here's Al Green's version and then Willie Clayton's remake of it. Willie did a really good job but in my opinion, Al Green is and always will be the best. Tell me what you think.
Simone de has created an absolutely beautiful song to the melody of one of my favorite Johnnie Taylor records. His voice is so pretty and this song will make you fall in love all over again. I'll come running back to you if you come back to me.... So beautiful!!!
I never understood
Why our love wasn’t so good
After trying so hard to get along
Yet we managed oh to break up
Our love we couldn’t wake up
Where did it go girl
All the love that we shared
There were times you did me wrong
Yet I walked away oh I would never do you harm
We used to fuss and fight girl
All the day and night through
Chorus
But I’ll come running back to you if you come back to me
I’ll come running back to you if you come back to me
I always tried to do good
Tried to do the best that I could
Nothing could please you girl
In spite of all I do
I know you’re seeing
Oh you’re seeing someone else
Go on and help yourself
I’m trying to tell you girl
Don’t let the green grass fool, don’t let it fool you
In his arms he wants to hold
Everything, everything that glitters just ain’t gold
I still love you girl
I hope you still love me, too
I hope you love me, too
Chorus
It’s hard trying to get along
I can’t make it on my own
What happened girl, can I hear it coming from you
Chorus
My favorite line - "I hope you still love me, too, I hope you love me, too!"
I'm going to get to the Mobile area one of these days to
see this beautiful man in concert!

Spice Internet Radio (http://wsir-db.com/) spotlights a different artist every week, and Jackie Neal is featured on their Southern Soul Showcase this week. (You've got to check out Spice Internet Radio - they play great southern soul.) Jackie was an extremely talented singer who was killed by her ex-boyfriend, James White, on March 10, 2005 in Baton Rouge. She was only 37 years old when she died! Her father, Raful Neal, and brother, Kenny Neal, were also blues musicians. Her father died a few months before she did. Imagine the music she would have if she were still here! What a voice! Here are several of her songs.
I don't have this CD and don't remember this record being played on any station, but I heard it the other day and, wow! This is one of those songs that they should have pushed on the airways; it is really, really pretty. His voice is so smooth and beautiful. This is one of those slow songs you put on at night or the kind of song you want to hear William Bell sing live in a little blues club. You will love it any way you hear it. This is a story of a guy who ends up in a bar and is drinking and thinking because he just broke up with his girl. As he sat there, he realized how much she really means to him and that he should get up and go home. You know William Bell from "Trying To Love Two," "Living on Borrowed Time," "New Lease on Life" (see my posts dated 7/22/2012), "I Forgot To Be Your Lover" (see 6/3/2011), and tons of other music. He even has his own music production company, Wilbe Productions - I'm so proud of him! He's been recording music for years and he's great.
Sittin' and drinkin' and I started thinking
Maybe I was wrong, I should go on home
I should go on back home
You see I really love the girl
And to me she means the whole world
Yes so I’m just sitting here
Sittin' and drinkin', I started thinking
Of all the good times that we’ve had
Of all the good times we’ve had
And when I think of what I’m losing
When I think of what I’m giving up
It hurts so bad so I’m just
Sittin' and drinkin' and I started thinking
Maybe I was wrong, I should go on home
Yeah, I’m sittin' and drinkin'
Yeah and I started thinking
Oh, of how much my baby means to me
Oh and I need her
I love her, yes I do
And hey I believe that we can make everything alright
I think I better get up and go on home
Right now, tonight, yeah I’m
Sittin' and drinkin' and I started thinking
That maybe there’s just a possibility that I could have been wrong
All the fault could have been mine all along
I’m drinkin' and thinkin', yeah baby, I love you
Sneaking around is so hard to do. Betty says that she's run out of places for them to meet and all the hotels know them by name. Wow! She knows her husband is running around and that's what made her run to the other man. It sounds like this will be a long-term relationship and it has to be a tough way to live. It all seems so right at the time but when the lovin' is over, and it's all said and done, they get up and go home. Good story, Betty!
I love the blues on Sunday afternoon. Well, I actually love the blues every day of the week but since today's Sunday, I'll go with that. Quinn Golden is another southern soul singer that left this earth way too soon. He was born in Memphis on October 25, 1954, and passed in Memphis on July 28, 2003. He sang with several groups such as Rufus Thomas, Ollie and the Nightingales, the Bar-Kays, Shirley Brown, Denise LaSalle, Barry White, and tons of others. He recorded some fantastic music - see my posts dated 5/15/2011 and 10/16/2011.
In this song, Quinn Golden says that he was caught cheating; he had a one-night fling and he knew it was wrong. His opening line is 'yes, it was me and your best friend coming out the motel last night.' How devastating! His wife's best friend kept coming on to him and the next thing he knew, they were in the motel. He's not going to play games by lying and so he's going to be a man about it and tell the truth. You have to give him credit. I have more respect for the man who comes clean - even if I don't like it - rather than the one that lies.
Yes it was me
And your best friend
Coming out the motel last night
Whoever snitched on me girl
They sure told you, told you right
I could have lied about it
But oh girl I told the truth
See we had this one night thing baby
And oh girl I cheated on you
Chorus
But I’m gonna be a man about it
I ain’t gonna say it sho wasn’t me
I’m gonna be a man about it
This time girl you got the goods on me
She kept coming on to me
By showing me her pretty, pretty legs
Next thing I knew baby
We were making love in a motel bed
After it was all over baby
I realized I was wrong
Girl I wanted to forget baby
But the news beat me back home
Chorus
All those other times you were accusing me
Oh, it sho wasn’t me
But oh it looks like this time baby
You got a positive i.d.
Ain’t nothing I can do except to confess
I can’t blame you baby, it was my own fault
I got caught up in my own mess
Chorus
My favorite line is "Girl I wanted to forget baby
but the news beat me back home!

I have always loved T.K. Soul and have quite a few of his CDs. His voice is smooth and it's just something about him that makes him so special. He was born Terrence Kimble (hence, T.K.) and his home is Winnfield, Louisiana. He began his musical journey at age 10 when he discovered he could play any instrument he came into contact with. His latest CD is called "Ghetto Superstar" and he has several release parties going on in the south until the end of November. Take a look at my other T.K. Soul posts and check out his official website: http://www.thebadboyofsouthernsoul.com/.
Baby, baby, you got me feeling kind of lonely
If you really don’t want me, let me be
Set me free, just tell me
I call your phone but you don’t answer
I know you see me calling you
When I finally get you, you say you’re busy
You got me feeling like a fool
Chorus
My friends are standing on the outside looking in
And what they see, girl you’re playing me
If you don’t want me, let me be
Set me free, just tell me
If you don’t want me, let me be
Set me free, just tell me
We really need to talk it over
Cause I’m feeling insecurity
If I need to find me another woman
I’m sure I can find somebody to care for me
Chorus
Maybe it’s just my imagination
Running away when I’m alone
Or maybe it’s just my occupation
Spending too much time away from home
Ms. Jody is one of my favorite female artists and this song is a little different from her other songs. It's more of a story with a little bit of singing. It kind of reminds me of Betty Wright's "Tonight Is The Night" but Ms. Jody is unique and does her own thing. A lot of her girlfriends are going through things with their guys and she tries to help them out; they wonder how she can give so much advice. Ms. Jody tells them that she has been caught up in a lot of the same situations before. She lets them know that if you're in a bad relationship, you're going to walk away when you get tired of the situation. She says that until you truly have enough, you're not going anywhere. So true, so true.
Here's a dance song that will make you get up and move. Sergio Davis, a native of Mobile, starts by asking where are the people who want to party? Let's go!!
Simone de tells the story of a man who has been hurt so much that he can't take it anymore. He got tired of his wife cheating on him, coming home late at night, and lying to him. He has shed a lot of tears and he's in so much pain. Oh Simone de - I feel for you! This is a beautiful song of a man who has been struggling because he clearly loves his wife but she's pushed him too far and that's it. He's looking for a day when he can hold his head up and let the sun shine his way. A beautiful southern soul song. It was released a few years ago but it is as wonderful now as it was then.
Baby if you see me
Standing in the rain, heart bleeding, a whole lot of pain
Standing there trying to hide my shame
The tears are falling, falling just like the rain
I’ve been hurt one time, two times
Oh I can’t be hurt no more
I’m so tired baby you just don’t know
There is something oh I have to tell you
I really think, I really think you need to know
I can’t take it no more, oh all these empty promises
You wouldn’t be true to me
I’ve got to let you go
I can’t take it no more, oh all your lying
It hurt me so bad, sometimes I feel like dying
I can’t take it no more
Oh, all your cheating, time after time after time after tune
You end up repeating
I can’t take it no more, no you coming home late at night
While I’m lying in bed, wondering if everything is alright
I’ve been hurt one time, two times
Oh I can’t be hurt no more
I’m so tired, baby you just don’t know
There is something, oh I have to tell you
I really think, I really think baby you need to know
I don’t want you no more oh you can be on your way
I’m not standing, not standing in the rain another day
I keep looking, looking, looking oh for a brighter day
When I can hold my head up, let the sun shine my way
I don’t want, no, another sad song
That’s the last time you’ll ever do me wrong
So I’m leaving, leaving, oh I’ve got to go
You better take your last look at me
Before I walk out the door
I can’t take it no more, no, no, the heartaches
I’m packing up, soon to be on my way
No, no sad songs
That’s the last, the last time you’ll ever do me wrong
I can’t take it no more, no, no, those promises
You wouldn’t be true to me
I’ve got to let you go
You're an awesome artist Simone de!
Keep recording great music for the world!

Ronnie Lovejoy has such a deep, sexy voice - his ballads will make you fall in love all over again! You may not be familiar with "Until You Get Enough Of Me" but wait until you listen to it. He's a married man seeing a married woman and they know what they're doing is wrong. He even says that he sits around and worries about the problem and sometimes cries about it all night long. They can't stay away from each other and will see each other whenever they can. So while they're together, they'll make love until she gets enough of him and until he gets enough of her. (Does that sound like a romance novel?) As corny as the words may be, this is oh so beautiful. Tre Williams did a good job on the remake of this song but I absolutely adore Ronnie Lovejoy's version.
Ronnie Lovejoy was an Alabama brother who was born in Wetumpka and died in 2001 at the very young age of 51.
Girl I try oh so many times
I tried so hard to keep you off my mind
Every time I walked toward that motel door
I find myself coming back for more
And I know we’re the talk of the town
I ain’t gonna let nobody turn us around
Oh I sit around and worry over this problem baby
Sometimes I cry all night long
Loving every minute that I spend with you
Dreading the time that I have to go back home
You’re a married woman and I’m a married man
Guess we have to see each other the best way we can
But tonight I’m going to make love to you
Till you get enough of me
Till I get enough of you
That’s the way, that’s the way it’s gonna have to be baby
I don’t care what people say or do
Until you get enough of me baby
Till I get enough of you
Now wait a minute, let me tell you baby
I know, I know what we’re doing is wrong
But I just can’t help, I just can’t help what we’re doing
Cause it’s so much better than what I’m getting at home
Now you’re lying here in my bed baby
And we ain’t got nothing on but the stereo
And I’m touching you in them special places
Special places where no one but me and you know
Girl I’m not ashamed to feel this way
We’re gonna be right here baby
Till the break of day, making love
Until you get enough of me
Until I get enough of you
That’s the way that’s the way it’s gonna have to be baby
I don’t care what the people say or do
Till you get enough of me baby
Until I get enough of you
Until you get enough of me
Until I get enough of you
Until you get enough of me baby
Until I get enough of you
Oh don’t listen to the people
Half of what they, half of what they say just ain’t true

Yes, this is the music from Karen Wolfe's "If You're Man Enough To Leave," but it is a totally different song. Simone De (with his fine self), one of Mobile's best kept secrets, has a huge hit with "Feel So Good." See my entry dated August 6 for more information.
When I think about the love you give
All the good lovin’ down through the years
When I lay with you and close my eyes
Oh baby the feeling I feel inside
The love you give from head to toe
Sometime I just can’t take it no more
Chorus
It feels so good when you’re loving somebody
It feels so good when you’re loving someone
I get all excited, I stand up straight, oh baby
I never forget the look on your face
Chorus
It’s hard to explain how you do me baby
Like you do, yes you do, what you do, you still do
Chorus
Take my hand, come with me baby to love land
Let me show you how sweet it can be
Giving your love to me
Chorus
When you’re loving me, just hold on tight
You know the ride will be out of sight
When I hear you calling, calling my name
You don’t have to be ashamed
I love you baby from head to toe
You won’t be able to take it no more
Chorus
Love me baby, love me right
I’m gonna love you good tonight
Let me show you how sweet it can be
Sharing your love with Simone De
Chorus
Take my hand come with me baby to love land
Let me show you how sweet it can be
Sharing your love with me
Chorus
I know that place, let me, let me, let me
Let me, let me take you there
Where has this song been all of my life??? For me, it was love at first sound! Oh man, tell me what you want; I want to know what you need. I'll get down on my knees for you. Oooh wee! This is so good - beautiful southern soul.
I've been looking a LONG time for this song and never realized that it was on youtube all along. I just wasn't searching it the right way. This is a fantastic duet by O.B. Buchana and Mr. Sam and I love it, love it, love it. They have a conversation going on between them and they start out by referencing other hit songs. Mr. Sam said that Theodis talked about how he stood up in it and O.B. talked about how he didn’t play with it, and so Mr. Sam just wanted to know what’s really going on; what happened when he took the girl home. I love to hear Mr. Sam ask the questions, such as did he knock her socks out of her shoes and did he make her fall in love with him. O.B. speaks with confidence and brags throughout the song - I'm not mad at him!! There are so many good lines here and one of my favorites is "I made her scream, O.B., O.B., ooh boy what are you doing to me - you're all the man I ever need, I can't take it no more!"
Did you knock it out the park
Did you make your dog bark
Did you put your foot in it
Did you put your foot in it
I put a hump in my back
I say do you like it like that
I put my foot in it
Mr. Sam says he wants to be like him when he grows up. A little later in the song you'll hear:
I hit a home run
I put the "F" in fun
Boy I put my foot in it
Yes, I put my foot in it
Did you hit it side to side
Did you take your girl for a ride
Did you put your foot in it
What a great blend of voices!!
I'm so happy I found this. O.B., O.B., ooh boy what are
"Love Me Till Tomorrow Comes" and "If I Could Love You Forever" (see my post dated 5/27/2011) are two of my most favorite Roy C songs. "Love Me Till Tomorrow Comes" is a soulful ballad from back in the day and it brings back such nice memories. I love this song and I just sit back and sing it every time I hear it. It's good to know that Roy C is still performing - he puts on a great show and sounds just like his records. See him if you get a chance.
The lights down low
And nobody here but you and I
We’ve got music on our stereo
But baby, can’t you see the night is young
We don’t need no company
Cause I got you honey and hey hey hey hey, and you got me
So I want you to come on baby, come on and…
Chorus
Love me, love me till tomorrow comes
Love me, love me till tomorrow comes
Now we may be tired and all wet with sweat
But you know honey, hey hey hey, I don’t have enough of you yet
And another thing, I love the way you kiss, I love the way you hug
And I’m crazy, crazy about the way you make love
That’s why I’ve got to say it again
Chorus
You know, I never had anyone to love me the way you do
But you know honey, I’ve got to get some power
Hey hey hey, so I can carry on till tomorrow comes
You know what honey
I’m not gonna leave you hanging baby, oh no
I’m gonna stay right here with you baby
Because I believe, I believe every man
Every man should make his woman happy
I love the music of Peggy Scott Adams, but the lyrics to this song are just so wrong. Ladies, can you imagine telling your husband that you hear him knocking on your bedroom door but he can't come in because you/re making love to his best friend? You can get killed over stuff like that!!! But, in spite of this woman's boldness, this song has a really catchy beat and it's a great dance song.
Chorus
Baby, I hear you knocking
But I can’t stop to let you in
You see right now I’m a little too busy
I’m making love to your best friend
Baby, I hear you knocking
But I can’t stop to let you in
You see right now I’m a little too busy
I’m making love to your best friend
We changed the locks on the door
Because we didn’t want to be disturbed
But you say to me, girl you’ve got your nerve
But wait a minute there’s a little bit more
You see right now he’s got me in a spin
He’s taking my body to places you ain’t never been
Ooh right now, my head’s in a spin
He’s got my body in places that you ain’t never been in
Ooh baby, he’s making love to me
Over and over from my head to my feet
Baby he’s making love to me
Over and over from my head to my feet
Chorus
Ooh baby, you wouldn't believe
How this man keeps turning me on
I haven’t felt this good baby
I tell you, ooh, for so long
Baby, he’s making love to me like you never did before
He’s taking me to places I ain’t been before
Baby please you better get away from the door
He’s about to bring out something in me you ain’t heard before
Chorus
I hear you knocking but I can’t stop it
I’m in here making love
I hear you knocking but I can’t stop it
I’m in here making love
T.K. Soul is one of the best artists out there today. This is a song meant for those going through things in their relationship and find that a decision needs to be made. If you don't want me, let me be and just set me free; just tell me.
I love Ms. Jody! If you ever get a chance, you have to see her live - she puts on a fantastic show and sounds just like her records. Yes, her lyrics may get a little risque sometimes but the girl is great!
I've been hearing Nathaniel Kimble's voice for awhile and he has a definitely wonderful southern soul sound. "Please Don't Go" is a great song to play if you're having a house party or just hanging in the club. It's that type of song where the man asks his girl not to go because he loves her and needs her. He tells her to put that suitcase down because she's not going anywhere!! He doesn't care what her friends say because she's staying with him. He says that if she leaves him, it'll knock him to his knees. How can you resist a begging man?
Let's dance, take my hand, hold each other real close. Ah man, don't you just love a good, not-too-slow kind of song that makes you smile? Mel Waiters is one of the greats and here's "Let's Dance" by him. Such a beautiful, feel good song.
Omar Cunningham is one of those multi-talented guys that I just love. He's not only an excellent singer and musician, he also writes and produces fantastic music for a lot of artists. Check out his site, http://www.omarcunningham.com/index, and listen to his music. "Baby Don't Leave Me" is a beautiful ballad and you'll like this soulful song - he says that this is the saddest day of his life and he begs his woman not to go. How can you leave a begging man???
Take a look at my 8/21/2012 blog entry for "If We Can't Get Along" and the entry dated 5/15/2011 for "The Beauty Shop."
Chorus
Baby don’t leave, baby don’t leave
Baby don’t leave me home alone
My heart is crying out to you
I need you in my life
Baby, don’t leave me alone
What did I do to deserve this pain
I’ve been with you, baby, through the storm and rain
I understand that you get tired but say it’s so
And I’ll move on with my life and prepare to go
Everybody has problems but baby don’t you leave
We can find a way to make it girl if you just believe
Chorus
I know in my heart baby you still love me
If you need a little time girl take your time, some time and see
That I’m the best thing baby, the best thing for you
I know in time it’s gonna be rough baby if you do
What I think that you’re doing, leaving me all alone
Searching for what you already, you already got at home
Chorus
Baby I can’t just trade our love for a one night stand
From sun up to sun down I always gave my all to our relationship
Because I really love you from the bottom of my heart
And I just can’t see myself making it without you
Because I love you, please baby I just can’t go without you
Wendell B. has one of the deepest, smoothest voices I've heard in a long time. Although I only hear him on southern soul stations, his music is definitely cross over material and I'm expecting this talented artist to climb higher and higher. Here's "Just Don't Understand You." He tells his girl that they've been together a long time and she always keeps something going on. He says that he truly loves her but it's time to get it together or leave it alone.
Girl we’ve been together for quite some time
And I’ve never had the chance to speak my mind
But girl you know I love you
But you keep a lot of hell up in my home
It’s time we get it together baby
Or leave the thing alone
Chorus
Mama taught me my ABCs, Daddy taught me how to 123
Went to school and got a college degree
But I just don’t understand you
I’ve been around the world, across the seven seas
Swam the deepest ocean, highest tree?
Went back to school and got my bachelor’s degree but I still don’t understand you
Now here I go again trying to make you understand
All the pain I go through baby trying to be a strong man
See I’ve paid all your bills baby
Keep you in the finest clothes
And still you won’t do right baby
Seems you’re out of control
So tell me what do I do because I’ve gone my last mile
I don’t want to lose the love we’ve had
But it’s time for me to smile awhile
But I’ll keep my door open baby, I just want a happy home
But it’s time we get it together or like ? say, get gone
You know Lenny Williams from his legendary song, "I Love You." It is just so awesome that he's still recording and making beautiful music. "Can't Nobody Do Me Like You" is very pretty and I think you'll like it. (Overlook all those extra minutes of silence after the song's over, though.)
I LOVE this song by Jimmie Ja. It sounds like southern soul. Good lovin, that's my specialty. Another cutie from the Mobile area - what do they have in the water down there??!!!
Do you want to hear a beautifully sad song? His girl is making it very clear that she wants to leave him and it's breaking his heart. Ladies, guys have feelings too and they run pretty deep. You've got to check out this Omar Cunningham song and when you do, take the time to listen to the words (see them below). This is such a pretty love song and I think it could easily cross over into R&B.
Laying here across the bed
Thinking about everything you said
You said I’m the reason that you’re feeling blue
You make me want to get away from you
I don’t want to leave but I know I should
But if I do, I did the very best that I could
I want to stay so I can raise my child
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you smile
Chorus
But if we can’t get along then we need to get apart
Cause you done broke up all of my sh__
Now you’re breaking my heart
While you're mad at me, you should be mad at you
So you’re the reason for this heartache and baby I’m through
For too many years trying to bite my tongue
And it ain’t getting no better and I ain’t dumb
You trying to run me off, trying to make me leave
Thinking things gonna be much better without me
I don’t know the deal, I wanna know what’s up
It’s like you just want me to pay bills and shut the hell up
Wish you could understand how you make me feel
You keep saying why don’t you just leave and maybe I will
Chorus
Sometimes in life you get what you want
You win some and sometimes you don’t
Sometimes you just get what you get
Should I blow it all away and just be through with it
I am thrilled to see that there is so much great new southern soul music being played on local radio stations and internet sites. Here are the top 25 new songs according to The Soul and Blues Report (http://soulandbluesreport.com/top-25/). Spice Internet Radio also plays their top new songs on Sunday mornings and I'm sure there are other sites/stations doing the same thing. I believe with all of my heart that southern soul is becoming more popular every day and that we need to keep spreading the sounds throughout the airways! You may (or may not) be surprised at how many people love southern soul.

It's Friday night and Artie Blues Boy hit the spot with "When You Took Your Love From Me." This is a pretty love song from a guy whose heart is broken. He is letting his girl know just how badly it hurt when she took her love from him.
Would you take the wing from a bird
And you know he can't fly
Would you take the bone from a little baby
Knowing he gonna cry
Would you take the fish out of the water
Knowing the little fella gonna die
Would you take the cane from a blind man
And you know he ain't got no eyes
Oh baby can't you see, oh my darling
That's what happened when you took your love from me
I've been loving you too long
You almost become a part of me, here's another thing
I'm a prisoner for your love baby
But it's a funny thing I don't want you to set me free
Would you take the sail from a ship
And you know it can't move, good God
Would you take the beat from a melody
And just let it lose all its groove
Oh darling, oh can't you see, oh that's what happened
When you took your love from me
I've been loving you oh I've been loving you too long
You know you became a part of me
Oh you will ?? my love baby
And you knocked me off my feet
I don't want to lose your love
And don't set me free oh no don't ever set me free
Oh you know I love you
Ain't no sense in going home, Jody's got your girl and gone! Johnnie Taylor's telling the guys to treat your girl right because if you don't, someone else will. Tons of artists sang about Jody after JT hit the scene with him - Jody's one bad guy!
Every guy I know trying to get ahead
Working two jobs till you’re almost dead (you tell ‘em)
Work your fingers right down to the bone
There’s a cat named Jody sneaking around in your home
There’s a cat named Jody in every town
Spending lots of cash and just riding around
Ride on Jody, ride on ride on, with your bad self
Jody leaves ashes in your ash tray
Footprints on your carpet while you work all day
He even got the nerve to sleep in your bed
Sit down at the table, eat your bread
When you get home after working hard all day
Jody’s got your girl and he’s gone away
Chorus
I say now ain’t no sense in going home
Jody got your gal and gone
Gotta get home but you work too hard
You gotta get home but you work too hard
Chorus
When you discover your gross neglect
It’ll be too late to give your woman respect
You’ll hunt down Jody, dead or alive
$10,000 reward for Jody’s hide
Chorus
The reason I know
One day Jody took my gal, said he took her away
He had enough sense to express himself
He told her good she look
Told her how cute she walk
Told her how pretty she talk
Ain’t no sense in you going home
Cause Jody has everything you got
Jody leaves footprints on your carpet while you
work all day! There's a $10,000 reward for Jody's hide.
Good music!!

Keep it right there and don't you move! Oh yes, here's a line dance that I can do - her voice is smooth, the music is good, and the beat's right on time. Two steps to the right, two steps to the left, right front and then left front and then groove it by yourself. I like this song by Gina Brown, makes you want to get up and dance!
Debra, this looks like your street in New Orleans, I think I even saw your club!
Denise LaSalle is a legend! I've been listening to her since the early 70s with "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" and she's as good now as she's ever been. "Your Husband Is Cheating On Us" reminds us that a player will keep on playing. Yeah, he used to come to my house when he wanted to play around. I love the line when she says that before she bows out gracefully, she'll tell everything she knows! Uh oh, he better watch out!
Hey lady, honey your husband is cheating on us
Hey lady, honey your husband is cheating on us
I know you thought you had a good man
Thought you had a man that you could trust
He used to come to my house when he wanted to play around
But now he’s finding his pleasures on the other side of town
Chorus
Hey lady, honey your husband is cheating on us
I know you thought you had a good man
Thought you had a man that you could trust
He borrows my car, leaves me stranded on my feet
While he and his other woman ride
All up and down the street
The lies he used to tell you
I know them all too well
But now he’s lying to me, girl
And that’s why I’ve got to tell
He’s got too many women
Now somebody’s got to go
But before I bow out gracefully
I’ll tell everything I know
He’s lying to me, he’s lying to you
And won’t be too long before he’s lying to her, too
