Marvin Sease - "Quiet As It's Kept"

Marvin says that everyone wants to be loved by someone but no one wants to give love.  He gives a pretty good message in this record which is on the last CD he recorded (Who's Got The Power).  He says two wrongs don't make one right - so true, so true.  His mom told him not to use anyone on his way up because what goes up is going to come back down one day!  I love Marvin Sease and would like for others to hear some of his great music.  Candy Licker may have been his signature song but he made a lot of really, really good music.

Quiet as it’s kept, strange as it seems
Everybody wants to be loved by someone
But no one wants to give love
But quiet as it’s kept ya'll, strange as it may seem
If you want to be loved by somebody
You know you’ve got to give a little sometime

Quiet as it’s kept my friend, strange as it seems
Every man needs a woman, every woman needs a man
But quiet as it’s kept ya'll, strange as it may seem
If you want to receive it, you know you’ve got to give a little sometime

Quiet as it’s kept my friend, strange as it seems
Everybody wants to be needed, everybody wants to be loved
But quiet as it’s kept ya'll, strange as it may seem
If you want to be needed, you know you’ve got to give a little sometime

You know my mama always told me, oh yes she did
She said do unto others son, as you have them do to you
And then she said, and don’t use nobody on your way up
Cause what goes up, one day is gonna come back down
And what goes around, gonna come back around
Then I heard my mama say
Two wrongs, don’t make one right
Mama kept on saying that
Two wrongs, don’t make one right
I heard my mama say whatever it is in life you want
Get it by yourself, I heard my mama say
Quiet as it’s kept son, strange as it seems
Quiet as it’s kept my friend, strange as it seems
I heard mama say, what goes up, is gonna come back down
And what goes around, is gonna come back around
And then I heard her say
Two wrongs, sure don’t make one right
She kept on saying that
Two wrongs, don’t make one right

What goes around is going
to come back around!
Enjoy!

Terry Wright - "Anytime Man"

What woman wouldn't love to have a guy like Terry?  He tells you that he'll be your anytime man and that you can call him anytime and he'll never do you wrong.  He'll rub your feet, comb your hair, take the kids to school, pay your bills, cook dinner, get off work early to run your bath water and then rub you down till you say you're through!  Terry, where are you - here I am!!!  Ladies, you know we tend to take advantage of guys like him.....but I wouldn't!  (smile)

If you need somebody who's there when you call
Waiting on you to give his all
If you need somebody who don’t mind rubbing your feet
Combing your hair, if that’s what you need
I’ll be there to take the kids to school
Come back and love you the way you want me to

Chorus
Let me be your anytime man
I’ll do what you want when he says that he can’t
Let me be your anytime man
And I’ll never do you wrong

If you need somebody to bring your breakfast in bed
Stay and cook dinner for you and your kids
If you need a little help girl, hand over some of those bills
Just call on me and I’ll do your will
I’ll get off work early and run your bath water for you
Rub you down baby until you say I’m through

Chorus

I’ll be there to take the kids to school
Come back and love you the way you want me to

All you have to do is call on me
and I'll never do you wrong.
Enjoy!

Ronnie Lovejoy - "Think About Her All The Time"

If you ever lost someone and realized it was one of the worst mistakes of your life, then you need to hear Ronnie Lovejoy's "Think About Her All The Time."  It's amazing.  Ronnie says that if you ask him if he still thinks about her, if he said no he'd be lying.  He thinks about her from Monday to Sunday, sun up to sun down, he thinks about her all the time.

I want to give a special thank you to Funky Larry Jones and the entire Southern Soul Radio staff for playing this song which is one of my top favorite songs ever.  Check them out at http://www.southernsoulradio.com/.

A perfect southern soul song.

Johnnie Taylor - "Crazy Over You"

Was going through some Johnnie Taylor withdrawal and it was time for me to post some of his music!  I love JT's ballads and "Crazy Over You" is one of my many, many favorites.  It's a beautiful love song but it does make me wonder, towards the end of ths song, what he did to this girl.  There are plenty of 'forgive me baby' and 'I'm sorry baby' phrases all over the place.  Why does he keep apologizing?  Hmm, that's allright JT, it doesn't matter because I love you anyway!

You know what my woman asked me the other day
She said why I always seem to have my eyes on her
First of all it’s because I love her, I said honey
I’m in love like I’ve never been before

Baby, when I met you my love life was kind of rough
I was better off like I was
‘Cause you got my mind messed up
Look at me baby you got me fickle as I can be
And ever since I met you baby I can’t forget you
Ninety-nine percent of the time I’m stoned out of my mind
I’m going crazy over you
I’m going crazy, crazy over you

I laid down last night and I begin to have a dream
I dreamed you were making love to someone else
Someone other than me girl
I got up out of my bed and called you on the phone
I said baby please, please, please honey
I need to talk to you all night long
I’m just a man who’s possessed with jealousy and happiness

I’m going crazy over you
I’m going crazy, crazy over you

I’m going crazy over you
I’m going crazy, crazy over you

Listen to me honey
I’m sorry baby, I’m sorry baby, yes I am
I’m sorry that I showed out on you baby
But I won’t do it no more baby
If only you forgive me baby
If you forgive me baby, here’s, here’s what I’ll do girl
If you forgive me baby, oh I’ll make it all up to you baby yes I will
I promise I’ll never do that no more baby

I’m going crazy over you
I’m going crazy over you

Big Cynthia - "Eatin' Ain't Cheatin'"

Ok, let me put my disclaimer in right away.  This is adult music - do not let your children listen to this!  I don't even want my mom or my grown kids to hear this song.   And yes, to my surprise, I have heard this played on the radio.  I'd like to say that I don't like the song because it just goes against everything I want for southern soul, but Big Cynthia has a good voice and the melody is light and catchy.  The words are just something else. (smile)  I usually listen to a song and write the words I hear, but you'll just have to listen to this one yourself - let me know what you think!

Albert King - "I'll Play The Blues For You"

This is the blues and Albert King sure knows how to play a guitar!!  Lewis Dee, one of the best dee jays I know who also happens to play southern soul, opens every program of his with "I'll Play The Blues For You."

I was fortunate to meet Lewis Dee the last time I was in Montgomery and he's a genuinely nice man with an awesome voice.  He has such a great personality and he makes you feel like you're part of the family.  You can find him from 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. (CST) on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Saturdays and now every Saturday afternoon on WKXN of Montgomery, Alabama. If you're listening on line it's www.thebigstation.fm and if you're listening via radio, it's 96.7/102.7/95.7 FM.   This is a pretty cool Albert King song.

If you're down and out, and you feel real hurt
Come on over to the place where I work
All your loneliness, I'll try to soothe
I'll play the blues for you

Don't be afraid, come on in
You might run across, yeah, some of your old friends
And all your loneliness, I'll try to soothe
I'll play the blues for you

Come on in, sit right here
And let's rap awhile
You see I'm kinda lonely too
Loneliness is a very bad thing
And loneliness can get you down
Are you comfortable
I said loneliness can get you down
And I have heard of loneliness
Blowin' some very fine people's minds
But you can't do that
This is a big big world
It’s a lots of beautiful things going on in this world
You just got to hang in there and be tough
You're a very pretty girl
Where do you live
No, no, disregard that
The most important thing
I wanna know you
I say, I wanna know you
I'll play the blues for you

I ain't got no big name
Oh Lord, an' I ain't no big star
I'll play the blues for you, on my guitar
All your loneliness, I'll try to soothe
I'll play the blues for you

Good, good music!

Vick Allen - "I Better Walk Away"

Vick Allen always tells a good story.  In this song, he says he's got a little problem and he better walk away before he loses his mind.  Don't you hate it when the girl treats the man so badly?  Of course, we're only hearing his side of the story but you can see that he's trying so hard to make her happy.  He gives her so much but she just keeps on doing him wrong.  In the end he has to leave before he goes crazy.  Another girl that let a good man get away.  You can't blame him - he gave his all.

I've got a little problem....
You see I got this girl and she drives me crazy
Still I do everything I can to keep this lady
Had to turn in my player’s card cause I kept getting played
But her loving is oh so good, I keep letting her have her way
Every time I turn around I let my bills go unpaid
Trying to give her everything she wants and hope that she'll maybe stay

Chorus
But now I’ve got to walk away before I lose my mind
I better walk away before I lose my mind

When my woman goes out I stay up all night long
Wondering when this girl is gonna come back home
Every time her cell phone rings she runs to the bathroom
And just like that she’s got to go, screaming she’ll be back real soon
Sometimes I can’t eat, sometimes I can’t even sleep
My friends keep on asking, what the hell is wrong with me

Chorus

If I ask her where she’s been, she says leave me alone
But there’s got to be a reason why she won’t answer her cell phone
So I bought her a pager so we can stay in touch
But sometimes she won’t call back, she says I page her too much
And when I want to make love she's always too tired
It’s just a big old waste of my time for me to even try
I can’t go on like this cause it hurts so bad, I’m gonna have to do something
Because she’s about to drive me mad

Chorus
This is a nice song to dance to, just right for a house party.

Joe Simon - "I've Got Trouble In My Home"

Joe Simon's music was popular in my house and "Nine Pound Steel" topped the list.  It was one of my Dad's favorite songs and he played it so much that we would hide the record - that, of course, didn't last long!!  I have come to adore that song in my later years and love it now as much as he did.  Another fantastic Joe Simon song is "Trouble In My Home."  It came out around 1972 and we used to sing this song everywhere.  As great as it is, it is kind of a sad song and Joe even starts out by telling us to please hear his cry.  Uh oh, that's not good.  He evidently messed up and his wife is leaving him; he was shocked when he walked in the door and she had her suitcase packed and her ticket in her hand.  She's leaving him for another man. Oh, you know he is hurt!  You can't help but feel sorry for him.  He wants us to pray for him and he needs someone to talk to.  Here I am!  (smile)  I think you'll really like this song.

As a little info on the side, did you know that Joe Simon is Bishop Joe Simon and he is doing so much for the church?  I had not heard anything about him in years and found this site:  http://bishopjoesimonministries.org/index.html.  He still has a beautiful voice!!  I'm proud of the life he is living and happy he is devoted to spreading God's word.  If I could, I would love to tell him the impact he has had on my life and on the music world. Joe Simon, keep on doing what you're doing!!

I got home today tired from my job
Walked in the door yeah, oh I couldn’t believe my eyes
My baby standing there with a ticket in her hand
She said I’m leaving darling
I’m leaving cause I’ve got another man

Chorus
Let me tell you
I’ve got trouble in my home
I’ve got trouble in my home

My kids are crying, ain’t got nothin’ to eat
And the only woman I ever loved
Oh she done turned her back on me
Baby I realize, I realize I haven’t always been true
But if you forgive me
Oh honey I’ll swear I’ll make it up to you

Chorus

Somebody pray for me
Pray that my home
Will be a home of love and peace
I don’t know what to do
I need someone to talk to
I really need someone yeah
Somebody please, somebody please hear my cry
I’m having so much bad luck
Tell you, I don’t even know the reason why
Now my loved one is gone
Seems like I’m all alone
I got trouble in my home
Trouble in my home

Oh, I've got trouble in my home!
Love it!

Mel Waiters - "Got My Whiskey"

There's something about Mel Waiters, he's one of the most energetic entertainers I've seen. He puts on such an awesome show and is a tough act to follow; he definitely knows how to work a stage.  "Got My Whiskey" is a great dance song and will get the people on the floor at any kind of party!

I worked hard all week and it's time to take a break
Play me some Marvin Sease or some Marvin Gaye
Call me later because I won’t be at home
I’m going out tonight because I feel like getting it on

Chorus
I came out to have a good time
That's all that's on my mind
Said I got my money and I got my whiskey
Because tonight I'm gonna get real tipsy

I'm not gonna sit around all night long
I'm gonna dance until the morning comes
I'm gonna let all of my troubles go
It's two a.m. in the morning
And I'm ready for more

Chorus

You see all you wanna do is go out and have a good time
You’re not going out to pick up anybody right?
All you want to do is let go of some frustrations
Cause you’ve had a hard and a hell of a week
Got your money, got your ride
Go ahead on and have yourself a good time
You know what I mean this is what I'm trying to say

Chorus

I worked all week and it’s time to take a break
Play me some Marvin Sease or some Marvin Gaye
Call me later because I won’t be at home
I’m going out tonight because I want to get it on

Chorus

Play me some Marvin Sease
  or some Marvin Gaye!!!

Lamorris Williams - "It's You"

Are you familiar with Lamorris Williams? He is one of our younger southern soul stars and has been steadily rising to the top of the charts with several hits.  You probably know him from "Impala" (see my post dated 11/17/2011) and my most favorite of all of his songs is "Body Roll" (I'm still waiting for it to be placed on youtube).  But I have to tell you, "It's You" is wonderfully different than most of the music you hear - maybe because his voice is so versatile.  This is a really good song.  BTW, Lamorris is the son of gospel singer Leonard Williams, an original member of the legendary Grammy nominated group, The Williams Brothers. Lamorris started in the music industry at the very young age of seven playing drums for The Williams Brothers and by the age of nine he was singing backgrounds on professional records.  He has recorded with tons of groups and has also produced some gospel albums.  See http://www.lamorriswilliams.net/ for more of his outstanding bio.

Hey lady, I know it ain’t been long since we’ve been going steady
But baby, I just got to let you know that I done fell in love with you baby
If you don’t believe me, baby, you see you fill me up with sunshine
Let me take a little minute baby, and tell the whole world I want you to be mine

I can tell the world how I am feening for your love
It seems like this one here, man it was sent from up above
Every time I see you girl my heart goes in a race
I just want to love one woman till my dying day

It’s you baby, it’s you baby
It's you baby
Loving how you hold me
Loving how you do me
I just want to love you

If you want to know why I take that mess at work every day and don’t walk away
It’s you baby

Seems like the way you touch me girl, it gives me a thrill
Feels like I’ve been drinking or I’m on some kind of pill
Take my money, take my pride, take all my possessions
I prayed to the Lord for a good thing and you were my blessing

If you wonder why I go to work every day and don’t hesitate
Baby, it’s just you
It’s you, baby, it’s you

(This song stops around the 3:53 mark - the remaining 14 minutes contain snippets from his CD.)

All my friends say I'm glowing and
every day feels like Sunday!

Will Easley - "Your Love Amazes Me"

What a truly beautiful love song.  This ballad has a touch of a country and western feel and Will Easley has done a fabulous job with this record.  Although this man has seen the seven wonders of the world, sunsets, colors of the rainbow, and other things, it's her love that amazes him.  The girl gives him hope, gives him reason, and gives him something to believe in.  My favorite line is when he says "don't you ever doubt this love of mine, you're the only one for me."  Soooo beautiful!!!

I’ve seen the seven wonders of the world
I’ve seen the beauty of diamonds and pearls
But they ain’t nothing baby, your love amazes me

I’ve seen the sunset that’ll make you cry
Colors of the rainbow reaching across the sky
The moon in all its phases your love amazes me

Don’t you ever doubt this love of mine
You’re the only one for me
You give me hope, you give me reason
You give me something to believe in
Forever faithfully
Your love amazes me

I prayed for miracles that never came
I got down on my knees in the pouring rain
But only you can save me
Your love amazes me

Don’t you ever doubt this love of mine
You’re the only one for me
You give me hope, you give me reason
You give me something to believe in
Forever faithfully
Your love amazes me

It’s only you, you amaze me
I got down on my knees
Your love, your love amazes me
Your love amazes me
Your love amazes me
Your love amazes me

You will enjoy this!
