Denise LaSalle - "I Forgot To Remember"

Have you ever been so in love with someone and when you broke up, you just couldn't get that person off your mind?  Denise says that she tore up his picture and took it off the wall.  She threw away everything he gave her because she didn't want any reminders of those unhappy days.  She even threw away the mattress and bought a new bed, then gave up her apartment and moved on the other side of town.  She forgot to remember to forget about him; she still feels his presence in everything she does.  After she told herself that they were through she forgot to remember to forget about him.  Love!

Lou Pride - "Twisting the Knife"

This song just sounds like southern soul.  I heard this the other day and it was one of those songs that made me stop and find it.  I don't know anything about Lou Pride but this is my kind of music!

You've been rubbing my nose in something I don't want to know about
You doing something with someone baby, and I'm just doing without
You're lying in bed beside me but you seem so far away
When I look into your eyes baby it looks like you got something to say
I remember the day I made you my wife
Honey you're the love of my life
So why do you keep on twisting the knife

Cut my chains and set me free!
Enjoy!!

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was "I Forgot To Remember" by Denise LaSalle.  Denise says that she still feels your presence in everything she does. After she told herself that you two were through, she forgot to remember to forget about you.  Funny how love does that to you.

Welcome to the very wonderful J. Red for being in the top 10!!  I love him!
I can probably say something great about every song in the top 10 (because they're all fantastic) but I think Miss Lady Blues is amazing and both "Going Down Slow" and "You're The One Baby" are beautiful records.
Congrats again to Ann Davae Steel for the #1 slot with "Good Good Lovin!'"
I love southern soul music! Thank you Cathe B for a wonderful countdown and WDLT for a great All Blues Saturday!!

Willie Clayton - "Stone Good Lover"

The beauty of listening to different radio stations is that it allows you to hear music you may not know or have ever heard before.  I wasn't familiar with "Stone Good Lover" but I do know that  Willie Clayton's never put out a bad song!  Here's one  I heard today from his 1988 Forever album.

To learn a little more about Willie Clayton, here's his bio from the Soul Blues Music (Blues Critic) website (http://www.soulbluesmusic.com/willieclayton.htm):
Born March 29 1955 in Indianola, MS, Clayton has been recording since 1969. One of the most popular and definitive artists of Modern 'Southern Soul' music (although he doesn't want to be known as a 'Blues" or "Southern Soul" artist). Amazingly, he has only enjoyed steady but modest commercial success since the late 60s outside the South. Clayton left Mississippi for Chicago in 1971 but ended up with the legendary Hi Records in Memphis, where he worked with producer Willie Mitchell. Hi issued a series of Clayton singles on its Pawn subsidiary, including "I Must Be Losin' You," "It's Time You Made Up Your Mind," and "Baby You're Ready," but none of them charted.

In 1984 Clayton scored his first regional hits  with "Tell Me" and "What a Way to Put It". Picked up by Polygram, the song "Tell Me" Cracked the national R & B chart (Billboard R & B #74). Later in the decade Clayton recorded some strong material for Ichiban Records before signing with Ace. His third for Ace, "Ace In The Hole" included the southern soul smash "Equal Opportunity", a duet with Pat Brown and one of his standards "Three People Sleeping In My Bed". From there a steady stream of southern soul hits has followed. He started his own label, EndZone in the late 90s (which also released LPs on Omar Cunningham and Tyrone Davis) and signed to Malaco in 2005. On his own again in 2009, Clayton reached the Billboard R & B singles chart again when "We Both Grown", a duet between Clayton and Dave Hollister, managed a #84 placing.

Lola - "Creepin'"

I'm gonna be somebody's woman tonight!!  Lola says that she's gonna do some creeping of her own tonight since her man doesn't want her and won't come home.  Well! I guess that's what happens when the woman gets fed up.  She couldn't wait to get home from work, put on her party clothes, get out the house, and have a good time. Watch out!! lol

Enjoy!

Simone De - "Something to Talk About"

I was thrilled to hear this new record by Simone De and "Something To Talk About" was definitely worth the wait!  I think it's some of his best work.  I love this medium tempo groove, kind of makes you want to get on the floor and hand dance or bop or whatever you call it where you live.  Simone De's in the club and everyone is looking at him and the girl he just met .  He says that they can't let the crowd down and he wants to give them something to talk about while they're on the floor dancing and having a good time.  Pretty nice!

David Brinston - "My Outside Woman"

"My Outside Woman" has a really good southern soul feel to it and you can't help but like it.  In this song, David Brinston tells us how his outside woman is so good to him.  His wife put his love on a shelf and he didn't want to but he had to find somebody else.  (Well, you know you really don't have to find someone else while you'e married.) His new girlfriend acts like his wife used to act.  Hmm, there's a moral in the message here.  David said that he was living with his wife but their house was not a home; they were just putting up with each other and the love was gone.  So I'll say, women - and men - keep alive the romance in your love life.  Do things with each other, have a date night every now and then, and continue to do those things that you did to get that guy...or girl.  Then, hopefully, you won't need that outside woman.

My outside woman, is good to me, so good to me...

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was "Mr. Mailman" by Jesse Graham. I LOVE this song - used to play it nonstop for hours. lol  The letter said Jesse, I'm sorry that it ended this way.  I was good to you but you were bad to me, that's why it's over. All he could say was Mr. Mailman, you brought the wrong mail.  You can't help but feel kind of sorry for Jesse getting this Dear John letter.

I love Miss Lady Blues' voice and enjoy seeing "Beat Beat" rise (got it jumping, heart is thumping)!! Happy birthday Miss Lady Blues!!

Congratulations once again to O. B. Buchana and Lomax for their number 1 song, "You're The One Baby!"

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was "You've Got To Hurt Before You Heal" by the legendary Bobby "Blue" Bland!  He says that when you lose the one you love, your heart goes through changes.  And then he later says that the tears will eventually stop falling down your face but they still fall down your heart!  Wow!

Welcome back Mobile's own Simone De to the countdown with his latest single, "Something To Talk About."  So glad to have you back!!

Congratulations once again to O. B. Buchana and Lomax for their number 1 song, "You're The One Baby!"

Omar Cunningham - "Find A Good Woman"

Very nice!!  Omar says that he's got to find a good woman, someone that's going to be good to him.  He was always hearing rumors about what his girl was doing and it was making him crazy. He said that she was letting other men ride in his Cadillac, giving his money away, and he was tired of being a fool.  So, he put her stuff out in the street and changed the locks on the door.  It's too bad that it had to get to that. He says he's a real good man and that he needs a good woman eight days of the week.  Doesn't sound like it's too much to ask to me!!  Ladies, if you have a good man, treat him right!!
