Robert Tillman - "Thinking of You (Nothing Takes The Place Of You)"

Have you heard of Robert Tillman?  I don't know a lot of his work but I fell in love with Thinking of You some years ago.  I recently heard it on the radio and it brought back some great memories.  In this 1992 song, all he can do is think about his girl - every time he turns around he thinks about her and says that nothing takes the place of her.

Here's part of his bio as found at Soul Blues Music (http://www.soulbluesmusic.com/robertduketillman.htm): Tillman started singing with a band called Wisdom and worked with the late McKinley Mitchell.  Tillman became a lead vocalist with the energetic Freedom Band and later as lead singer for the "Drells" which was formerly known as Archie Bell and the Drells.  With this association, Robert Tillman performed in concert halls with the Temptations, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and many more well known vocal groups. Tillman released his debut album, "Thinking of You," which became an instant winner and helped him establish his solo career.

Enjoy!

The Late, Great Floyd Taylor

I thought it was a mistake when I heard the dee jay announce a song by the late Floyd Taylor!!!  But sadly, it was not an error.  Floyd was so very talented and the world looked forward to many years of his wonderful music.  My heart goes out to his family. I don't know any details but the following story was on Black America Web on Feb. 21:

Floyd Taylor, the son of the late blues and soul legend Johnnie Taylor has died at the age of sixty-years-old, according to a family friend.
Taylor, a Blues singer, had recently been touring with other musical acts across the country. His next show was slated for March 15, 2014 in Merrillville, Indiana at the Town Blues Festival.
The Taylor family has not officially commented on his death.

Terry Wright - 'Two Women"

Well, well, well. He used to cheat on his woman so much and now she's cheating on him.  He called the man's wife and said "there are two women in love with your husband - you and my wife."  Yes Terry, it is a sad day.

Maybe I can help you and your husband move across town!

Betty Padgett - " I Didn't Take Your Man (You Gave Him To Me)"

Now Betty Padgett can tell a story!  Here's a man whose wife has been taking him through changes and divorcing him for a year.  Girl, don't you know about the clean-up woman?  If you don't want him, you can best believe there is someone who does!

Why does this woman keep calling me
Woman you need to stop hating and instigating
You’ve been divorcing this man a whole year
You didn’t want him
And you can’t stand to see nobody else have him
But since you’re so bold to call my house
Let me tell you something

I didn’t take your man
You gave him to me
All those years you left him alone
Now you want to call to bitch and moan
This man ain’t hard to please
But you wouldn’t take time to supply his needs
He’s a good man that needed more from you girl
Yes he was your husband but he’s my lover boo

Chorus
I didn’t take your man girl
You gave him to me
I didn’t take him
Everybody know you gave him to me
You should have took the time to know your man
His likes and dislikes like the back of your hand

It takes two to love
Life ain’t no game
Making love and having sex
Ooh ain’t the same thing
When you had this man
You treated him so bad
But his lovin’ is so good
Oh girl I understand why you’re mad

Where there’s a woman like you
There’s a woman like me
Waiting on a real good man
To become single and free

Chorus
All that man needed was a little love
A kind word sometimes ah girl and a gentle hug

I watched that man drink
When he didn’t even drink
I watched him smoke
And lord knows it kept him broke
You had him thinking that there was no hope
But you got caught up
And hung yourself with your rope

Chorus

You gave him to me on a silver platter
Yes you did girl
Girl you were so busy doing your own thing
His love didn’t really matter
He stayed with you for a long time
And all you did was cause that man pain
So just drop his last name and oh by the way
You can take off that wedding ring
Cause I didn’t take your man
Girl you gave him to me
You had a good man
And now that man is mine
I didn’t take him
I want to thank you girl
I want to thank you for giving me a sweet loving man...

Enjoy!
All that man needed was a little love, a kind word sometimes, and a gentle hug

Donnie Ray - "Lovers Paradise"

This is a very pretty love song by Donnie Ray.

Do you want to go, want to go yeah
Come go with me baby
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
To the special place, special place in time
We’ll explore our love
We’ll be together till the end of time
And we’ll make love in the morning light
Leave our footsteps baby
Somewhere in the sand, yeah
Come go with me girl
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
Come and go with me girl
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s, lover’s paradise
It’ll be so nice
In lover’s paradise
We’ll explore our love together
Until the end of time baby
Our cups will overflow with love
Oh baby, I swear you’ll ever get enough of
When I touch you girl here and there
I’m gonna rub you all over your body
And show you just how much I care
Come and go with me baby
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
We will be together
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
Come and go with me
To lover’s paradise
Oh baby, I promise you baby it would be so nice
And you know, and you know baby
I’ll be willing to make a sacrifice yeah
Come and go with me girl
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
I promise you’ll never forget it girl
Oh I know, I know in my heart
You won’t regret it baby
Come and go with me
(To lover’s paradise) to lover’s paradise
We will be together, I promise you
We’ll be together until the end of time
Come and go with me baby
To lover’s paradise…

Enjoy!!

Sir Lawrence - "Walking Papers"

This is one of the many reasons why I love southern soul. The songs are often real stories from down to earth people like you and me. Walking Papers is a heartfelt but sad song. This man gave up after trying so hard to keep this relationship going and he gives his woman her walking papers - he's done.

Something I want to say to you baby
It’s been on my mind, on my mind for a while now
I’m so tired of your lying and cheating ways
And you leaving me day after day
Your broken promises and your shattered dreams
Real love, you don’t have a clue to what it means
It’s too late baby to reconciliate
It’s been too many times you caused my heart to break

So many sleepless nights
Wondering where could you be
When you should have been home
Making sweet love to me
I’m packing my bags
I’m getting the hell out of here
I won’t look back, I won’t shed a tear
Cause being with you, I can’t take no more
It’s over baby, I’m walking out the door

I’m giving you your walking papers, oh yes I am
Your service is no longer needed
I’m giving you your walking papers, oh yes I am
You’re free, free baby to see who you want to see

You’ve got no one to blame but yourself
It’s been too many times when I told you how I felt
You just smiled and said that things were gonna change
But for so long baby, things have been the same
No longer will I be used and abused
No longer will I be blinded by love and be your fool
I hope you’ve heard every word I said
Cause last night was the last night I’ll sleep in your bed

I’m giving you your walking papers, oh yes I am
Your service is no longer needed
I’m giving you your walking papers, oh yes I am
You’re free, free free baby to see who you want to see

I’m giving you your walking papers
So long baby
I’m giving you your walking papers
Farewell, goodbye
I’m giving you your walking papers
So long baby
I’m giving you your walking papers
Farewell, goodbye
I’m giving you your walking papers
Oh yes I am
Your service is no longer needed
I’m giving you your walking papers…
