This was the first T.K. Soul song that I had ever heard and I've been in love with him ever since. The song is a classic. This man had a funny feeling that something was going wrong and that his wife was doing wrong. So, he goes around town asking people if they can tell him where Jodie stays because he's looking for his baby. He asks if they can tell him where Jodie lives; he's looking for his wife. Everyone tells him to go to his friend's house - his long-time friend of 20 years. He knocks on the door and feels like a fool but he tells him know that he's looking for his wife. The friend tries to play it off but T.K. tells the guy that this is where everyone says she is. The friend tells him that she'll show up sooner or later and he should go on home. Wow. Wouldn't you know, she walks out of the bedroom. That is messed up. So sad but a really beautiful song.
Can you tell me where Jodie stays, I'm looking for my baby
Can you tell me where Jodie lives, I'm looking for my wife
A masterpiece!

Ok, here's a slight deviation from southern soul. My son and I were talking about Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and I came across this beautiful song - it brought back a lot of memories. Yesterday I had the blues but those sad days are all over.
O Marvin, you have a way with words! It ain't what you say, it's how you say it. And, it ain't what you do, it's how you do it. If you can't keep your woman from me, it's your own fault and just leave me alone. Marvin said that ladies, if you need his services, just call. He's just letting guys know that he's there for all of those women who aren't getting what they need at home. Well done, Marvin.
I'm Mr. Jody, I'm just doing my job!

I used to LOVE this song when I was a teen. All of the versions I see on youtube have skipped over about a minute of the introduction that starts with a conversation. All I can remember is the girl begging Z.Z. She says, "well Z.Z., I'll do anything, and I'll promise anything. And I'll keep my promise, I mean it, I'll keep my promise if you just forgive me...." She wants him to reconsider and she's doing some serious begging. He says that he doesn't know if he can forgive her. If you can remember the rest of the words from the intro, please let me know.
I can tell, you think you do, and I'm gonna give it to you!

Talk about the blues!! The girl broke his heart when she said goodbye but he's found out that it's all good. He's found a new, true love and the pain isn't so bad any more and he said that it just doesn't hurt any more. This is good music.
No pain and
no tears.
Oh it just
don’t
It just don’t
hurt no more
You broke my
heart
And then you
said goodbye
Oh and when
you left me
You made me
cry
But I found
a new love
Oh I found a
true love
And it don’t
hurt no more
Oh no
On the other
day, I passed your door
Oh I didn’t
look back
Just like
before
You’ve had
your chance, dear
You killed
our romance dear
And it don’t
hurt no more
Oh no, no no
If I had
known honey right from the start
Don’t you
know it would have been easy
Oh for us to
part
Oh but I had
built my
My whole whole
life on you
Oh and then
you told me
We were
through
Oh Lord you had
me walking
Oh and
pacing the floor
Oh but now I’m
walking
I’m walking
right out the door
You see I found
a new love
Oh I found a
true love
And it don’t
hurt no more
Oh no, don’t
hurt no more
You see, it
don’t hurt no more
Honey, don’t
hurt no more
When you left me, you made me cry. But, you see,
it don't hurt no more.

Looking for good southern soul, turn to Lewis Dee at WKXN out of Montgomery, Alabama (http://wkxn.com/). The station streams online and they are also on TuneIn which allows you to listen in your car and anywhere else you can connect. He's on between 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. CST on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Saturdays, and every Saturday afternoon from noon to 3:00 p.m. His outgoing personality shines through, he keeps you entertained, and he plays fabulous music. Lewis Dee is my favorite on-air personality and I listen to him every chance I get.
Sir Charles Jones' "A Tribute to the Legends" is a really good CD that shows the range of what he can do. He took a list of classic songs by legends in our time and remade them in his style. Here's his version of Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home." Also see my "Do You Feel It" post dated 3/22/2012.
Temptation. That's what I think when I hear this southern soul song. These two people have a definite attraction to one another even though they are married to someone else. But you know how it is after you've been married awhile - the glow seems to kind of fade a little and the passion goes away. You start wondering if you're really happy, you feel a need to do something different, and you may even think about cheating. That's what these two are going through but it doesn't seem as if they're going to follow through on their desires. Good for them!!!
BTW, according to Wikipedia, the group Facts of Life was formed and produced by Millie Jackson and one of the members was Jean Davis, the sister of Tyrone Davis. Hey, you learn something new every day.
Hello baby,
are you married?
Sometimes
And tell me,
are you really really happy?
Yes,
sometimes
But sometimes
I feel like I’ve just got to get away
From that
same old existence, day after day
Oh haven’t you
ever felt that way
Sometimes
Now I can
see that you’re married, don’t you love her?
Sometimes
But you have
thought about cheating, haven’t you?
Yes,
sometimes
But sometimes
I long for a warm and tender kiss
Just to see
if there’s anything I might have missed
Oh haven’t
you ever felt like this?
Yes,
sometimes
And it’s
beginning to feel like
Like this
might be one, one, one of those sometimes
Those one
time, in a lifetime, sometimes
I’m aching
to hold you, kiss and console you
Drive you
right out of your mind
But I know
if we do, I won’t get over you
For quite sometime
I won’t do
it, I won’t do it, I won’t do it, baby
But I know
if we do
I just might
not get over you for quite sometime
Oh, haven't you ever felt like this? Sometimes...
