Lady E - "Candy Licker"

I recently heard this on a radio station playing southern soul...it's ok. I thought, when I heard the title, that it would be a remake of Marvin Sease's legendary hit but I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't. Redoing classics (in my opinion) is a pretty difficult challenge.  Lady E says that she needs to find a candy licker to put a smile back on her face.

Ms. Jody and Donnie Ray -"I'm Gonna Keep My Love at Home"

Donnie Ray recorded this song a few years ago but he recently remade it with Ms. Jody.  Both versions are actually great and their duet is really beautiful.

I'm gonna keep my love at home - me and you got it going on!!!

T.K. Soul - "Caught Up In Doing Wrong"

T. K. Soul says he wants to do right but he's caught up in doing wrong.  Ladies, is that believable?

I love you anyway T.K. Soul!

David Brinston - "Back On The Backstreets"

I'm a David Brinston fan.  This is a pretty, slow song from this man from Clarksdale, Mississippi.  He's on the backstreets paying for all the wrong he's done.  She used to cook him three hot meals and now she won't even give him a sandwich - you know he messed up!

Enjoy!

Millie Jackson - "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right"

This is Millie Jackson's ten-minute version of Luther Ingram's hit.  As great as Luther's song was, no one can sing this song or rap like she can. Millie Jackson puts her own spin on it and makes it her own. While she was always played extensively on R&B radio, her current music is being played on the southern soul circuit - she is still singing well and making new music.  This song is one of her classics.

Listen to the clock on the wall!!!  Tick on clock!
Enjoy!

Nellie "Tiger" Travis - "If I Back It Up"

You can hear the familiar background music on this Nellie "Tiger" Travis song - it's kind of hypnotic. I love her voice as she asks "if I back it up, what you gonna do... if i put it on you baby, what you gonna do??"

Enjoy!

Shirley Brown - "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man"

T.K. Soul - "I'm Looking For A Lady"

There really is so much good music out here and T.K. Soul has become one of the living southern soul legends.  You know that I believe a lot of southern soul should be played on mainstream radio and this is another one of those songs.  Love T.K. Soul.  He's looking for a lady and had to go to rehab to get through the pain!!

I'm looking for a lady - is it you???
Enjoy!

Simone De - "Lonely"

The oh, so, sexy Simone De is the love of my life!  I almost wanted to cry the first time I heard this song because he sounded so sad.  Take a look at his words - it's a sad, sad situation and he says he's such a lonely man!  I hate to see him feel so badly...I think I need to rescue him!

It’s 17 days now since you’ve been gone
And I’m sitting here writing you this letter
Hoping you’ll come home before I have to mail it
I’ll tell you a million times
While I shed these tears
Reminiscing about the good time we had and wishing you were here

Sitting here baby by the fireplace
Staring at your picture, the smile is on your face
When I gaze in your eyes as I reminisce
Oh those sweet embraces I sure do miss

You know I really love you
But you treat me so cold
Woman, I’m going through because I don’t have you to hold
My whole world is shattered just wishing you were here
Girl I’m broken into pieces knowing you’re not here

Chorus
I’m so lonely, lonely baby, since you’re not here
I’m so lonely, lonely baby, since you’re not here

It’s a sad, sad situation I know for me
After seven long years and now I’m shedding tears
I never thought you’d leave me
I never thought you’d walk away
How can I go on without you baby
It’s hard to live another day
I tried so hard baby to be with the one I love
My baby’s gone and I’m so all alone
And this old house, this old house is not a home
I’m hurting and broken in pieces baby
And I’m so all alone

Chorus

I wish you didn’t have to go
Because it hurt me so
You took my heart with you baby
The minute you walked out the door
I never thought you’d leave me
I never thought you’d walk away
I wrapped my whole world around you
And now I don’t know what I’m gonna do

Chorus

I'm hoping you'll call me...
