Marvin Sease - Please Take Me

Have you ever heard a song that fits your mood? There was a time when I was lonely and I used to play this song over and over and over. It seemed as if Marvin knew exactly how I felt ! (smile) He starts the song with ooh baby, oooo, oooowee baby! I love to hear him moan, whew, takes my breath away!

Check out some of the words:
I remember when I was just a young man
My mama sat me down and she taught me the golden rule
The golden rules of love, that is,
I never will forget it
She said son, don’t rob and steal
She taught me to work hard for what I wanted in life
And she said seek, my child and I promise you, you will find it
And most of all she said yield not to temptation
In other words, don’t bother no one who belongs to someone else
Mama said that’s a no no!
So if you’re one of those who ain’t got nobody, why don’t you take my hand and listen to me.

I’m just looking, oh I’m looking, I'm looking, oh I’m just looking
If there’s anybody here who ain’t got nobody
Please take me, cause I'm looking for somebody, please take me.

So can you help me out?
I don’t want to do nobody wrong
So if there’s anybody here
Who ain’t got nobody, please take me
Cause I’m lonely too, please take me.

And I love these lines:
I'm begging tonight......
Cause I’m lonely oh as I can be
And I know that don’t give me no right to do nobody wrong
So if there’s anybody here who ain’t got nobody, please take me.

This is just an awesome, awesome song.
Enjoy!!

O.B. Buchana - I'm Going Back Home

Tell me what is a man to do when he can't hear no down home blues??  O.B., those are my sentiments exactly!  Back in the day before stations streamed their music online, we were just out of luck.  We depended on family and friends to send us the latest southern soul music, and then we played it to death.  So when O.B. sings this song, I definitely feel his pain.  Here are some of the words:

I made a trip up north, to visit some of my friends
They said O.B., you ought to move up here cause the good times never end
I must admit I thought about it for a day or two
But then I came to the conclusion
That this I just can’t do
Then I told my friend, I said fella I can make this my home
But there is just one reason I won’t
Cause there’s just one thing wrong
Ya’ll don’t have no southern soul music when I turn on my radio
All I hear is hip hop, country, talk shows, and rock

And a little later, he says:
What good is a party and women if you can’t hear no down home blues?
And I love the line:
Since y'all can’t play my music
Home is where I belong.

This is great southern soul music.
Enjoy!!

Wilson Meadows - Still My Love

Wilson Meadows has a sexy and awesome voice!  Still My Love is the first song of his that I had heard and even though it's a few years old, it's beautiful.  The song is about a guy who loses his girl to someone else.  The thing is, he still loves her and it sounds like she still loves him, too.  He believes that she is still his love and it's only a matter of time before she belongs to him again.  Yes, this is the stuff that dreams are made of - true love that lasts forever.  Here are a few words - sing it to me Wilson, sing it!!

I hear she’s been seeing this loser since we’ve been apart
Now I call him a loser because even though we’re apart
That’s still my love
And no way he can win this, he may claim her now, that’s fine
But hey, check it out, it’s just a matter of time

Still my love, that’s still my love, still my love
Still my love, still my love, that’s still my love

She’s found someone new
She’s supposed to be happy
But guess what
I don’t believe that's true
No, she just can’t be happy
You see, she can fool her friends
That’s the easy part
Oh just wait, she can’t fool her heart

And yes, I love this song.
Enjoy!

Internet Radio Request

Help!  Please let me know if you are aware of any internet radio stations that play southern soul 24-7.  I know many stations that play southern soul for part of the day and some that mix R&B into their lineup.  I'm looking for stations that play straight southern soul, all the time.  Like Southern Soul Radio.....

Thanks!!

Reggie P

This artist has been on my mind for the last week and I've been planning to spotlight this song, Why Me.  Imagine my shock when I just read from the Blues Critic that he passed away in his sleep.  I don't know what to say, my prayers go out to his family and friends.  May he rest in peace.  So sad.

Maurice Wynn - What She Don't Know Won't Hurt Her

Maurice Wynn is one of those southern soul artists you've probably never heard of before.  This is the only record I know by him but it's a great one and yes, I love it.  Infidelity is the recurring theme in most southern soul songs and this record is no different.  In spite of it all, this is a very pretty, addictive song with a catchy melody.  I think the guy got messed up, though!!  See http://www.southernsoulrnb.com/artistguide.cfm?aid=77 for more info about Maurice.

Check out the words to this awesome song:

How can I explain you in my life?
To my children and mainly to my wife
This kind of thing was wrong from the start
But telling her will surely break her heart.

But I know she’ll ask what brought this all about
She’ll cry a little while and then she’ll throw me out!

What she don’t know won’t hurt her,
It won’t hurt her or hurt me.

When I first saw you baby, I saw you sitting there
Never thought that I would even care
But it was all over the second that we made love
But what on earth was I thinking of?

I love my children, my wife I adore,
I never had a woman quite like you before.
Enjoy!

Malaco Records

Devastating storms went through the southern part of the country on Friday, April 15.  One of the casualties of the many tornadoes was Malaco Records in Jackson, Mississippi, and two of their three buildings were totally destroyed.  I'm thankful there was no loss of life and I sincerely hope they rebuild.  I also hope there will be a return of Southern Soul Radio - my all-time number one favorite internet station.  Malaco has been around for 44 years and is the home to a countless number of blues and gospel legends.
See this link for more information: http://www.wlbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=14457925.  Many thanks to soulbluesreport.com for the update.

Lebrado - Let Me Be Your Daddy

Did you know that Lebrado's big brothers are the R&B duo of K-Ci and JoJo?  One of my favorite songs of theirs was All My Life. I believe Lebrado has inherited their talent and he is just a great singer with a beautiful voice.  Here's a song for you to groove to - I had mentioned it in one of my earlier blogs and gave you some of the words:
So you got a man but you’re still lonely
Say he doesn’t make you feel much like a woman
But you stay
You don’t need that drama in your life
Let me take you from this tonight
Cause I want to love you
Treat you like the woman that you are, girl you know you are my superstar
This is the chorus:
When you’re sick and tired of being his woman
You can come over and you can get your groove back
Baby, when you’re sick and tired of being his momma
You can come over and I can be your daddy, let me play your daddy

Woohoooooo!!  Love that song!

Enjoy!

Concerts

T.K.Soul, Lebrado, David Brinston, and Lacee are performing at the Annual Mother's Day Show at Carne's Park in White Hall, Alabama!!!  I need to go to this show!  I was just in Alabama this past weekend, so, unfortunately, I won't be able to make it....but, I sure would love to go.  These are some of my favorite southern soul artists and this is just an amazing concert.  If you get a chance to go, please let me know!

If you want to see a list of the performers that are going to be near you, check out Daddy B. Nice's Corner -  http://www.southernsoulrnb.com/calendar_mailbag2008.cfm.  He has a concert calendar that tells you just about everything that's going on everywhere.  Very informative.

Blues on the Radio

There's nothing like southern soul (also know as the blues) on the radio.  When I'm in west/central Alabama, I listen to WKXN (96.7), WBFZ (105.3), and WVFG (107.5).  They all play the blues but at different times, you kind of have to know when to tune in. WKXN and WBFZ also stream online which makes it nice because I can still listen when I'm not there.  On Saturdays, however, I notice that I sometimes have trouble with their internet connections so I've discovered Mobile's WDLT (98.3).  They stream online and have an all-blues Saturday show that's excellent!  I love this station.

The internet allows you to listen to southern soul wherever you are.  Now that's paradise!

Marvin Sease - Marvin's Testimony

Have you heard this song?  Amazing!  It really touched me and I couldn't help but cry when I heard the song and watched the video.  From what I understand, Marvin sang this song shortly before he died.  This performance was in my sweet home Alabama and recorded live in Montgomery; this is Marvin's testimony about what God had done for him.  He had been really sick, had seizures, high blood pressure and had to be hospitalized.  The doctors told him he was singing too much and singing too hard.  He got better and they let him go home.  In his testimony, he says "Ain't no man or no woman can set my time when it's time for me to go to soul heaven, I guess I'll be on my way."  In this song, he continually gives praise to God.  He constantly thanks Him for being so good to him.  He knew what God could do and his sincerity is so clear and real.  Please take a few minutes and listen to this unbelievable song. My only regret is that this video, like his life, ends too soon.

Rest in peace.
