Facts of Life - "Caught In The Act (Of Getting It On)"

Do you remember this from the mid 70s?  It was a great song and brings back memories.  You don't hear it that much and it was a treat to hear it played on the radio.  It's a story of two married people who got caught.  It's interesting, they let each other know that they've got each other's backs.  No matter what's going to happen, it was worth it for them.  Wow.

Get dressed baby I’m afraid we’re caught
Your husband is here and somebody must have tipped him off
He’s waiting in the lobby with tears in his eyes
And not there alone, no no no, my wife is by his side
Whatever goes down I’m with you all the way
But baby it’s the consequence I know we’ll have to pay

Chorus
We’re caught in the act of getting it on
We tried our best to fight it but no we weren’t that strong
Caught in the act of getting it on
We just couldn’t leave each other alone

Could it be we were followed the minute we left the house
They could have given the bellboy five dollars and he sold us out
My only regret is that they didn’t wait a little longer
We were in the midst of heaven when hell broke in on us

It’s an ugly situation, this I’ve got to say
But it’s worth the price I know we’ll have to pay

Chorus

Well, whatever goes down, girl I’m with you all the way
But baby it’s the consequence I know we’ll have to pay

Chorus

Enjoy!!

Johnnie Taylor - "My Lady Soul"

I didn't know Johnnie Taylor remade this Temptations hit - he did a fantastic job.  He put his own signature on this song and turned it into the blues!
Enjoy!!

Vick Allen - "Soul Music"

Vick Allen started singing when he was five years old, and baby, look at him now!  I think "Soul Music" is one of his best songs and it has an old school feel to it.  He says there's nothing like soul music and it's what he wants, it's what he needs.  You'll really like this!
Enjoy!

T.K. Soul - "My Life"

T.K. Soul sings beautiful ballads and this is such a pretty song.  It tells the story of losing family members and only being able to see them in his mind.  It is also a song of thanks.

Daddy worked hard every day of his life
Never heard him complain once
My whole life
Strong survivor for the family
Same kind of man that I try to be
To see him today sure would be nice
But I’m just thankful to have had him in my life

Now my life, what a shame
On that day he had to go away (Daddy went away)
I can still see his face in my mind today

Mama took good care of the kids
And we all had to learn everything she did
She always taught us right from wrong
Got me ready for the day I had to leave home
To see her today sure would be nice
But I’m just thankful to have had her in my life

Now my life, what a shame
On that day she let had to go away (Mama went away)
I can see her pretty face in my mind today

What mother had to leave, broke her heart
Another brother went away, tore me apart
I was lost so long for awhile
Had to turn to my children to make me smile
To see them today, sure would be so nice
But I’m just thankful to have had them in my life

Now my life, what a shame
On that day they had to go away
I can still see their face in my mind today

I'm just thankful to have had them in my life!

Will T. - "Mississippi Boy"

I just read an interesting story about the singer of "Mississippi Boy" and it bothers me when artists don't get the credit they deserve. It looks as if Will T., and not Charles Wilson, is the artist on this very popular song that has even been re-released by other artists.  When you get a few moments, read the Daddy B. Nice interview with Will T.; he gets a chance to tell his side of the story - it's excellent:  http://www.southernsoulrnb.com/corner2013.cfm.

David Brinston - "Beat It Up"

I love David Brinston but was kind of surprised when my sister told me she heard this on Tom Joyner's show.  It's a little risque (to say the least) but we've got to get southern soul to the masses so more and more people will hear and love our music as much as we do!
Enjoy!!

Marvin Sease - "Clean Up"

Happy birthday Marvin Sease!!!  He would have been 67 years old today and he is truly missed!!!  I love Marvin and he recorded some of the best music ever.  I couldn't let this day go by without posting something of his.  Marvin says he's got a good wife and everyone knows that he's no good.  He says that his wife gave him an ultimatum so he has to clean up what he messed up; starting his life all over again.

I don't know which came first - this song or the gospel version of this song.  Someone please let me know!
Happy Birthday Marvin!  We miss you!!!

Lamorris Williams (feat L.J. Echols) - "Close To Me"

Wow!!  How did I miss this song?  I've been playing it over and over and I love it.  Thank you WKXN for playing it this morning!  I'm a huge Lamorris Williams fan (see my entries dated 12/17/2012, 11/11/2012, 4/2/2012, 1/2/2012, and 11/17/2011) and I think L.J. Echols is really good (9/12/2012).  These guys may be relatively new to the scene, but I believe that both of them are going to produce some fabulous music in the upcoming years.

Lamorris and L.J. start this song by talking and having a good time. Then, when you hear them sing, their voices really complement each other.  In the middle of the song, they talk about the fact that whenever they go somewhere, people think they're too young to sing the blues.  They let us know that we have lost so many of our seasoned southern soul artists, such as Johnnie Taylor, Tyrone Davis, ZZ Hill, and Marvin Sease and they say that someone has to keep the blues going.  I'm so glad that they've stepped up to the plate!

When you put these two together though, you've got a great southern soul song.  The chorus of this song is the absolute best.

If you need a little room
Just let me know
I’ll tell all the other girls
Please clear the floor
You know just how to get it
You know just how to put your back in it
So baby when you’re ready
Let me see you drop that thing steady

Chorus
Now baby back it up
Baby, take it slow
Work your way down to the floor
Now get close to me
Get close to me
Get close to me
Baby get close to me

You’ve got some junk in your trunk
And I like the way you wiggle that rump
You got us all looking baby take it slow
Before you drop it down low
I don’t see how you move with them tight britches on
But you know just how to get it
To a down south southern soul song

Chorus

You know what Lamorris, what you say LJ, everywhere we go
People always think we are too young to sing the blues
That’s what they say, but you know what I tell them
That Johnnie Taylor’s gone, Tyrone Davis gone
And ZZ Hill gone, and Marvin Sease
So somebody’s gotta keep this blues going, so LJ, what you think

We’re young and we’re ready
We’re young and we’re ready
When we come to your town
We’re gonna cool it down (so you better get ready)
And if you don't know
You better come to the show
Fantastic music!!  Enjoy

Bar-Kays - "Holy Ghost" and "Grown Folks"

Your love is like the holy ghost!  That was one of my favorite Bar-Kays’ song back in the day and I absolutely adored the percussion and bass - here is the fabulous eight-minute extended version. Can you believe that they are celebrating 40 years in the music industry? They have released their 30th album titled “Grown Folks” and here is their title track.  They have a great video with the song and it is just so awesome to hear their new music.  They have a great website, http://thebar-kays.com/, and it’s filled with a lot of great info.

Bar-Kays, we are so proud of you!!

Here is their latest hit, Grown Folks.

Charles Wilson - "In The Room"

I have been listening to Bill Coday's version of this song for awhile and always liked the catchy beat.  I never knew that it was a remake of the original song by Charles Wilson.  "In The Room" was first done by Wilson and is on his album, "It's Sweet On The Backstreet," which came out in 1995.  Coday did it a couple of years later and it can be found on his 1997 "Can't Get Enough" album.

Here is Charles' Wilson's "In The Room."  In this song, the man was in the room next to the room where he was cheating on his girl.  He found out that his woman was loving his best friend.  They were both so wrong.
Enjoy!
