Theodis Ealey presents Willie Hill - "I Gotta Get My Groove On"

Have you heard this before?  It has a definite southern soul sound and I love it!!!  I think it was released last year but I just heard it for the first time tonight on The Southern Soul Blues Report (http://www.southernsoulbluesreport.com/).  At first I thought it sounded a little bit like Mel Waiters but no, it is an artist named Willie Hill.  He's new to me but not to our southern soul expert, Daddy B Nice, who wrote about him years ago.  Take a look at his write up/bio on Willie Hill on his website, SouthernSoulRnB.com: http://www.southernsoulrnb.com/artistguide.cfm?aid=399.

This is what I want to hear when I go out to party.  Thank you Theodis!  We be jammin! lol

Tyrone Davis - "Ain't That Good Enough"

I want to hold you in my arms tonight
I want to squeeze you
Gently, not too tight
It's just a matter of time before you blow my mind
Falling in love with you girl, oh yeah

Love me some Tyrone!  This is a little known song by him (I've only recently discovered it) and it's a pretty love song.  Ain't that good enough?  Ain't that sweet enough?

Shower you with kisses - morning, noon, and night!

BJ The Chicago Kid - "Woman's World"

When I first heard "Woman's World," I thought it was R. Kelly doing a remake of his own song, "When A Woman Loves." Nevertheless, this is a very pretty song and it recently made it to WDLT's top 10 countdown.  This song kind of displays, in my opinion, the trend of some young artists in the southern soul music field; their music sounds closer to R&B than southern soul.  However, good music is good music and it appeals to music lovers everywhere.

Here's a copy of BJ The Chicago Kid's bio as taken from the AllMusic website: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/bj-the-chicago-kid-mn0002517403/biography.
Born to church choir directors on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, Bryan Sledge, aka BJ the Chicago Kid, relocated to Los Angeles at the age of 19, when he became a backup singer for contemporary gospel stars Mary Mary. Over the next several years, he appeared as a vocalist on Stevie Wonder's A Time to Love and wrote material for a mix of R&B and gospel artists, including Crystal Aikin, Shirley Caesar, Lalah Hathaway, Joe, and Kindred the Family Soul. Major strides as a solo artist were made in 2012. In February, he released Pineapple Now-Laters -- a hefty introductory showcase for his streetwise mix of vintage and modern styles. Two tracks, including an update of War's "The World Is a Ghetto," featured Kendrick Lamar. That August, he announced that he had signed to Motown, which released the Pineapple track "Good Luv'n" as a single in October. A mixtape, The M.A.F.E. Project, was released in November 2014, while one of its tracks -- "It's True," featuring ScHoolboy Q -- was issued as his second Motown single. In 2015, he continued to work toward the release of his first proper album with singles "That Girl," "Church," and "The Resume," and he was featured on tracks by Joey Bada$$, Kehlani, Jill Scott, and Dr. Dre, among several others. In My Mind arrived the following February.

Johnny "Guitar" Watson/Mel Waiters - "A Real Mother For Ya"

First, let me say that I loved, loved, loved Johnny "Guitar" Watson's entire "A Real Mother For Ya" album.  I bought it back in '77 and listened to both sides, front to back, over and over.  I knew every word and every line of the title cut...still do. lol  This may not be southern soul but he was a fantastic guitar player and this is great music. So, here's the original version along with a very good remake by our very own southern soul legend, Mel Waiters.

Two great songs.

Alonzo Reid - "Hush Money"

True southern soul music.  Ok, I love the melody and the sound of this Alonzo Reid song but, as usual, the lyrics get to me.  lol  He says that his woman is gone and he doesn't want to be alone tonight.  So he stops by this bar and sees one of his wife's friends.  He's been looking at this girl for some time and has wanted her.  Of course they get together and he says he has some hush money for her to keep it on the down low.  Nobody else has got to know what they're doing. He pays her off (and continues to pay her) so she'll keep her mouth shut. The crazy thing is that this kind of thing happens all the time...Alonzo is singing about real life.

Hush Money has been on the top 10 charts for weeks now!!

Enjoy!

Ooh wee, I think my pipe has sprung a leak, it's an emergency...I need somebody to see about me. My man don't want to get it on and I'm sick and tired of sitting home alone, I need a Mr. Fix It Baby, but you gotta last all night long.
