O. B. Buchana - "I Can't Get You Off of My Mind"

This song may be a couple of years old but it's an absolutely great duet between O. B. and Sir Charles Jones.

Jeff Floyd - "I Found Love On A Lonely Highway"

This song is a timeless masterpiece.  I posted it a couple of years ago (see: http://southernsoulparadise.blogspot.com/2012/04/jeff-floyd-i-found-love-on-lonely.html).  In my opinion, this is a complex song, made up of different lines, melodies, and other things going on - absolutely perfect.

Here is Jeff Floyd's bio as written by Andrew Hamilton and posted on the Allmusic site (http://www.allmusic.com/artist/jeff-floyd-mn0000980407):
Jacksonville, FL, native Jeff Floyd (born October 1965) is a throwback Southern soul singer who conjures up images and the aural extremities of the genre's best purveyors, notably Otis Clay and Bobby Womack. His music evokes emotions and feelings that linger long after the song has ended. A start in his church's choir piqued Floyd's interest in music to the point of becoming proficient on many instruments, which helped tremendously in his songwriting, with his baby being the bass guitar. Floyd's mastery of instruments made him an employable commodity who has performed behind some of the industry's giants on the road. He recorded for William Bell's Wilbe Records, but cut an album prior to that association entitled Changing Times, originally issued on his Jeff Floyd Music, and reissued on Japan's P-Vine Records in 1993. Floyd headlined a concert with Trudy Lynn, and the Total Package Band at the Narni Black Festival in Italy, October of 2000. And he played regularly during the '90s with his crew, Jazz Jeff Floyd and the Sweat Band at the Contemporary Jazz Lounge in downtown Jacksonville, as well as performing opening-act duties for many of the major urban artists that rolled into Jacksonville, including a two-day concert with the Temptations at a Mother's Day show at Metropolitan Park.

This is the long version and it's worth listening to every second.  Go see Jeff Floyd if you ever get a chance to see him perform.  I love his music.

Enjoy!

Tyrone Davis - "Sexy Thing"

I think that out of all of the Tyrone songs that I love (and I love a whole lot), this has to be one of my favorites.  If I ever do anything more than this blog, Sexy Thing is going to be my theme song - not necessarily because of the words but more because I love the music. The melody is so sexy and this song makes me want to dance!!!

In the words of Tyrone: You pick me up when I feel let down, comfort troubled water.  Soothe me with your kindness, you're just what the doctor ordered. And then a little later in the song he says: I like your moves, I like your eyes, I like your hips, ooh I like your thighs, you sexy thing you.  Sexy, sexy, sexy sexy thing. I like your mouth cause you know what to say and when I'm feeling low and down you know just what to do about it, you sexy thing.

Miss you Tyrone!!

Al Lindsey - "Tick Tock"

I ADORE this song, love it.  I've heard it for the last couple of years or so and couldn't find a copy of it on youtube until today - here it is.

"Tick Tock" is taken from Al Lindsey's 2011 "Can You Handle This?" CD.

Opening lines:  You know they say true love never dies, it's just like the span of the universe, inifinite; just like the clock that goes tick tock, tick tock.

Love it, love it, love it!

Lomax - "The Knock Down Inn"

Doesn't this sound like southern soul?  It's Lomax's recent hit and I like it.  It's a song about a guy and his girl going out to the Knock Down Inn.  There's no telling who you might see there!  He says that he doesn't see the people checking in and they don't see them. Sounds like an interesting hotel - I wouldn't want to be there but I'll bet it's entertaining!! lol  I still love the melody of this song.

Here's part of Lomax's bio that I found at https://www.reverbnation.com/lomax1:
Lomax Spaulding was born in a small town in Georgia. He began playing the guitar, the piano, and singing at a very young age. Lomax’s first exposure to public performance began in the Church. A deeply spiritual person, Lomax believes that his talent is a gift from God.

Lomax wrote and produced every song on his Southern Soul/R&B CD, “Life’s Lessons.” This amazing CD will get you singing, dancing crying, and in the mood. Each song has received high praise from music critics and most importantly his fans.

Lomax is continuing to perform and write great music as well as produce other artists. He possesses a great deal of heart and passion for his music. Lomax has been performing at a variety of venues sharing his gift with fans from all over the world!

Check out the ReverbNation site to see the rest of his bio and to discover more info about Lomax.

Ms. Jody - "If He Knew What I Was Thinking"

Oh do I love Ms. Jody.  "If He Knew What I Was Thinking" is a song that should be heard by every guy who's ever abused a woman.

Ms. Jody was talking on the phone to a girl who was in an abusive relationship.  Her man didn't think she would pay him back for all his hitting and abusing of her because he still came home every night. He expected her to do everything and act like everything was alright but he didn't know what was on her mind.  If he knew what she was thinking and if he knew what was in her head, he would stop eating her cooking and stop sleeping in her bed!!  Take the time and listen to the rest of Ms. Jody's story.

I love this line - "common sense should tell you that when you abuse someone, you better watch yourself!"  Ladies, if you're in a relationship in which your man is physically and emotionally abusive to you, leave!  If you feel that you can't leave and I know that it's hard to do, seek help - it is out there for you. There are people who will save you and your children.

"If He Knew What I Was Thinking" is taken from Ms. Jody's recent "Talkin' Bout My Good Thang" CD.

He had no right to put his hands on her...

Donnie Ray - "Too Many Mechanics"

Was listening to Spice Internet Radio (www.wsir-db.com) and heard this song by Donnie Ray.  I've been listening to Donnie Ray for awhile now but hadn't heard his one - I love it!!!  It has a bluesy sound and it is good!  He said girl, you have too many mechanics working on your car.  Somebody said you have five but you only need one to do the job!!  That's what I'm talking about!  He said he doesn't need anyone's help to do his job.

This is grown folks music!

You called me over last Friday, said you were running hot.  I came by and flushed out your radiator till I got the leak to stop....(you have to listen to the song to get the rest lol)

Karen Wolfe - "Get Your Lie Straight"

You know Karen from "If You're Man Enough To Leave" fame and here's a record from her latest album - "No Regrets."  It's a story about a girl catching her guy doing wrong.  She wants to hear what he has to say and he better get his lie straight.  She said that she has to have an answer and I love this line - if I ask you five years from now, it better be the same!!
