Karen Wolfe - "That Chick Ain't Me"

I am a Karen Wolfe fan and just recently heard her new single. I love everything Karen records! "That Chick Ain't Me" is a story about a girl who leaves her man because he wants someone else.  Karen tells him that she sees that he's found another girl but that chick ain't her. Her girlfriend even sends her pictures of her boyfriend and his sidepiece; you know everyone's talking.  She lets him know that it's over and she's also moved on and found someone else.

I love these two lines of the chorus:
You thought that things would be better - I'm happy for ya'll
So quit texting my phone, saying can I come home - hell no!
πŸ˜€(lol That's what he gets.)

The melody of "That Chick Ain't Me" reminds you of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind." But Karen's not trying to hold on to someone who doesn't want her - unlike Etta James who'd rather go blind 😧than watch the man (who doesn't want her) walk away.  Well...

Thought I'd give you the classic Etta James' song.

Lyrics from Google Play
Something told me it was over
When I saw you and her talking,
Something deep down in my soul said, "cry girl"´
When I saw you and that girl, walking out.
Ooo I would rather, I would rather go blind boy,
Than to see you, walk away from me child, and all
Ooooo so you see, I love you so much
That I don't want to watch you leave me baby,
Most of all, I just don't, I just don't want to be free no
Ooo I was just, I was just, I was just sitting here thinking
Of your kiss and your warm embrace, yeah,
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips, now baby,
Revealed the tears that was on my face, yeah.
Ooo and baby, baby, I would rather, I would rather be blind boy
Than to see you walk away, see you walk away from me, yeah
Ooo baby, baby, baby, I'd rather be blind now

Tucka - "Til the Sun Comes Up"

Everything Tucka touches seems to turn into gold.  He opens the song with the question - what would you do if you ever had a man like me?  I say hmmm... Then he proceeds to talk about all the things he wants to do - like rock until the sun comes up.  Oh Tucka!

Lacee - "Don't Let The Clean Up Woman" Official video

I love this latest single from Lacee.  She has a great video to go along with the wonderful story she tells.  Many of us have or have had that girlfriend who always wanted to be around you and your man.  Her clothes are always tight or too short and she's the kind of woman that will lay across your bed, sit down at your table, and have the nerve to eat your bread.  Now ain't that the truth!

This is what Lacee says in her chorus:
Don't let the cleanup woman come into your house. Cause if she do, she'll try to clean you out.

Very nicely done, Lacee!!

Also take a look at the behind the scenes footage of Lacee's video shoot:

Cathe's Classic Pick of The Week was "Equal Opportunity" by Willie Clayton!  He said he went to sneak off to see this girlfriend and when he got back home his wife was ringing his next door neighbor's doorbell.  He called it cheating and she called it equal opportunity. She told her husband that he came back home too early because he usually stays out late.  Well...
Congrats to Calvin Richardson and "Treat Her Right" for making the countdown!
A special congrats to Ronnie Bell for breaking the Tucka ceiling and reaching the number 1 slot with "I'll Pay The Shipping Cost!"

Big G - "Darkest Hour"

Dr. Nick has done it again - he always knows the music that I want to hear!  He's been playing Big G's "Darkest Hour" on Spice Internet Radio (http://www.wsir-db.com) and I've fallen in love. πŸ’• Big G starts by singing that it's another lonely night with him lying in bed all alone.  It's been three weeks since the day she walked out their home and his heart hurts more and more every day.  Oh my, I'm a sucker for a lonely man singing a begging song. lol  Here are the words to the chorus:

Ever since the day you left, everything's been going wrong
I've lied to myself, tried convincing myself
But the darkest hour is just before the dawn
That's when I'm dreaming about you and me
About the things that we do, just me and you
I never felt love till I found you

"Darkest Hour" is a beautiful, soulful ballad, I love it.  Thank you Dr. Nick!!

I saw Big G for the first time in Ladysmith, Virginia - see my post http://southernsoulparadise.blogspot.com/2016/08/southern-soul-blues-celebration-in.html.  It was a great show!  I'm looking forward to seeing him at the end of the month - more details soon!!

If you can take me back, I'll do whatever it takes...

Nellie "Tiger" Travis - "Mr. Sexy Man, The Album"

Nellie Tiger Travis is a dynamic artist and performer.  I love to watch her live because she 1) sounds just like her records and 2) she makes me feel like I’m part of the show.  This Mississippi girl has a great personality and a wonderful stage presence.

I recently drove from Alabama to Maryland (yes, I drove) and listened to all of the new “Mr. Sexy Man, The Album” from track 1 all the way through track 12.  I absolutely loved it!  The CD starts with Mr. Sexy Man which may as well be our national anthem!  What better line is there when we see that guy we like!  Hey Mr. Sexy Man, what ‘cho name is??? Cause we really want to know.  I think the song on the CD that I like the best  – mainly because I hadn’t heard interludes done in awhile - is “Smile.”  Earth, Wind, and Fire incorporated music interludes on their albums and one I remember is “Brazilian Rhyme (Beijo)  which is  on their “All ‘N All”  album.  Nellie’s interlude lasts all of 1.05 minutes and her lyrics are “it’s a beautiful day, smile.”  It is simple and oh so very pretty.  Nice job, Nellie!

I also love “I Woke Up In Love.”

I'm the type of person who will buy a CD for one song but you don't have to worry about that with "Mr. Sexy Man, the Album." Every cut on this CD is good and I think the writing and her musicians are all excellent.  The quality of the music along with her soulful voice make this a wonderful album.  It's definitely worth adding to your collection!
