T.K. Soul - "Caught Up In Doing Wrong"

T. K. says that he wants to do right but got caught up in doing wrong. I want to be mad at him for being in this situation but he's sorry for hurting his wife and knows that he can't go back and erase what's been done.  Well...

What a very pretty ballad - love his music.

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was "Your Man Is Home Tonight" by Tony Troutman.

"Living A Lie" slipped to #10 this week but boy do I still love that song!  There are a few changes in the countdown but not many; in fact, #1, #2, and #3 held their same spots! And, the talented J-Wonn has two songs in the top 10.  FYI, Cathe told us that Till 1 and Tony Tatum used to sing in the choir together - cool!

I love southern soul music! Thanks WDLT for a great All Blues Saturday!!

L J Echols - "Taking Candy From A Baby"

L.J.'s best friend stole his woman and messed up his home - he said that he didn't even see it coming. He thought back to all the times he worked hard and gave her all of his pay but for his best friend, it was like taking candy from a baby.  He said that an old man gave him some good advice that he didn't listen to; he told him to never invite too many men in your house around your wife.  Wise words for all!

I kind of like the piano solo in the middle.

"Taking Candy From A Baby" is from L. J. Echols' "A New Beginning" CD.

Tony Tatum - "I Need A Woman"

"I Need A Woman" took a giant leap this past week and landed on WDLT's top 10 chart.  This is a pretty song about a man who has thrown away his players card and is ready to settle down.  He's had his share of women and he s ready to make a change.  Tony lets us know that he's tired of being lonely, he needs some substance in his life, he wants a wife, and he really needs a good woman.  He said that if he gets the chance again he'll get it right and will hold his girl real, real tight.

I'd say he's ready!

Here's Tony Tatum's bio as taken from the ReverbNation website (https://www.reverbnation.com/teetatum):
Tony Tatum whose real name is Antoine Deshone Tatum is a singer/songwriter, born on January 28, 1977, originally from Saginaw, Michigan, currently residing in Atlanta. Inspired by his mother Tony began singing in church at age of 11.

Influenced by listening to the soulful sounds of Babyface was motivating enough for him to begin singing professionally. Making a name for his self, Tony Tatum was given an opportunity to audition for Keith Sweat on the spot. Impressed with his talent Sweat invited Tony to tour with him as a background vocalist.

After performing six years with Keith Sweat, Tony decided to resign so that he may pursue a solo career. “He is a great performer,” Sweat said. “It was time for him to do his thing.” The best way to describe Tony Tatum’s raw unparalleled talent is less of what you expect, but more than what you think. He has an ability to engage his listeners in more ways than one.

Tony has written, co-wrote and collaborated on songs with musical talents Omarion, Frankie J, Usher and more. He has also toured and performed with other musical greats Howard Hewett, New Edition, The O’Jays, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Charlie Wilson and Ne-Yo.

Tony has been featured on the Real House Wives of Altanta, Young Hollywood, The H.Y.P.E. Magazine and more. He is currently busy in the studio finishing up with his highly anticipated album, “The Tee Tatum Experience”, while preparing to hit the road to promote his first single titled, “Step Out” featuring super producer/emcee Jazze Pha.

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was "I Lied" by Jesse Graham.

Many thanks to WDLT for today's spotlight on my hometown artist, the late Frank Mendenhall. His birthday is Monday, March 14, and he left wonderful music that will forever be a part of our lives.

Ok, a couple of new and even surprising things this week.  Katrenia Jefferson's "Living A Lie" has been either #1 or #2 forever and came in at #7 this week.  Congrats to "I Need A Woman" by Tony Tatum and also J-Wonn's "Daddy's Girl" which are new to the countdown.  "Cowgirl" slipped from #1 to #2 but that means absolutely nothing because it may be back to #1 next week! lol The biggest surprise is this week's #1 song - "Ohhh Baby" by Till 1. "Ohhh Baby" has been on the chart for months now but this is the first week in the #1 slot - congratulations!

I love southern soul music! Thanks WDLT for a great All Blues Saturday!!

J-Wonn - "Daddy's Girl"

I think J-Wonn is a pretty talented and versatile artist; he knows his audience well. Here's his latest single, "Daddy's Girl."

J-Wonn says that all he needs is a Daddy's girl because she's gonna know to treat him and she's gonna know how to care for him.  He says that a daddy is going to show his daughter how to first love herself, how to respect everybody else, and will show her the difference between a playa and a real man.  He says that when he says he loves her, she'll understand.

Vick Allen - "Be My Shawty On The Side"

I'm a Vick Allen fan but I'm thinking that this song was written just to pull in a younger southern soul crowd.  A lot of southern soul is about adultery but still.  Vick says he'll treat her right and treat her good and won't care about nothin' but loving her.  The girl even asks if he has another lady and he admits it and says he still wants her to be his shawty on the side. She can be his jump off, side piece, and friend with benefits...come on Vick. He says he'll buy her anything but what gets me is when he tells her he can take her to Walmart whenever she wants....

Cathe's Classic Pick of the Week was Let's Get Married Today by the marvelous Marvin Sease.

The new song added to the list this week is Be My Shawty On The Side by Vick Allen. Hmm, I'll be writing about that song in a few minutes - keep a watch for my post.  Terry Wright's Make That Body Rock had dropped off the list but has made a strong comeback. Get It by Toia Jones jumped from #10 to #3 this week and Katrenia Jefferson's beautiful Living A Lie, which has been #1 for the last few weeks, fell to #2. And, there are just no words I can say about Cowgirl!! What kind of magnetism does that song have? lol Interesting to watch how the different songs fluctuate from week to week. It is March Madness!

Tucka - "Blowing in the Wind"

Tucka!!  This song is a little different for him.  He's going through some things and you can tell that he has a broken heart - he and his girl are going their separate ways.  She used to have his back when they started out as friends but now it's all come to an end. He lets her know that he's not like everyone else. He explains that this is his career and he doesn't have a 9 to 5 like other men.  For all you performers and people in the entertainment industry, I know it's got to be hard to maintain a 'normal' lifestyle. Tucka says that their love is like paper, blowing in the wind.  So sad...

Blowing in the Wind can be found on his Groove City CD.

Maurice Davis - "Whipped & Pecked"

I have been hearing this song for the last few years on Spice Internet Radio (www.wsir-db.com) and have always loved it but couldn't find it for the longest. I'd like you to listen and let me know what you think. It has a catchy melody and I love the words.  The music is great and so is his voice.  I'm going to have to find some more of his stuff.

Let me tell you about this woman of mine - she's so fine.  She has me whipped and pecked at the same damn time. When she tells me to jump, I already know how high, when she calls me to come on home, I tell my friends goodbye.

This is the only song I know by Maurice Davis but he has tons of albums.  There's not a lot of info on him and, in fact, this (from 2013) was about all I could find: Maurice Davis headlines concerts and outdoor festivals throughout Michigan.  His commitment to excellence and to his audience is demonstrated as he performs.  He not only sings the blues, he loves the blues, and as he performs, he creates a thrill of excitement.  Maurice was produced by legendary blues artist, Willie Clayton of Atlanta, GA and by Charles Wilson of Greenville, MS, the nephew of the late great Little Milton.  His CD on Sims Records was nominated "Blues CD of the Year."

I'm whipped and pecked!!
Enjoy!
