Coldrank - "Chocolate Drop"

The sweet shop, chocolate drop.

Coldrank is approached by a woman who's heard he's a bad man but she's clearly interested in him.  You know we sometimes love those bad guys! lol Anyway, he says listen baby, my plate's full, but sometimes I overeat. She was like, it's all good, I could be your little treat. He said alright, hold up, wait a minute you don't know what you're getting into. I'm just a one night stand - at least he's honest.   I love the beat and melody and Chocolate Drop is a favorite on the charts.

I'll have you coming to the treat shop on Coldrank Avenue!

Karen Wolfe - "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man"

You know, there are so many times when a young - or immature girl - will try to take your boyfriend, husband, friend, etc.  To these girls, Karen makes it real clear that you ain't woman enough to take my man.  Then, she says that you can try and want to if you think you can... you ain't old enough to understand.  She said that you have to have class and be a woman too, and you have to have knowledge and you sho got to know what to do.  I love this song and I love Karen's message.  She is confident in what and who she has and knows how to keep her man.  That's what I'm talking about!!

You're not in competition because you're not in my league!!

A Tribute to Denise LaSalle

Denise LaSalle, the Queen of the Blues, was a legend and the world is going to miss her!  She made amazing music and was truly talented.  I've been listening to her since her 1971 hit, "Trapped By A Thing Called Love." Our family had the 45" record and I can still hear my father singing the lyrics and I can see him dancing to it!

There are many websites that had Denise LaSalle's bio and this one (which was written a few years ago) was taken from www.last.fm:

Denise LaSalle (Ora Denise Allen, July 16, 1939 - January 8, 2018) was an American blues R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and record producer who, since the death of Koko Taylor, has been recognized as the "Queen of the Blues".
Born near Sidon, Mississippi and raised in Belzoni, she sang in church choirs before moving to Chicago in the early 1960s. She sat in with R&B musicians and wrote songs, influenced by country music as well as the blues, before winning a recording contract with Chess Records in 1967. Her first single, "A Love Reputation" was a modest regional hit.
She established an independent production company, Crajon, with her then husband Bill Jones. Her song "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" (1971) was released on Detroit-based Westbound Records. This reached #1 on the national R&B chart and #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song ranked at #85 on the 1971 year-end chart. The RIAA gold disc award was made on November 30, 1971 for a million sales.
She also wrote successful follow-ups, "Now Run And Tell That" and "Man Sized Job" which made #3 and #4 in the R&B Top Ten and also charted in the Hot 100. Her early hits were recorded at the Hi recording studios in Memphis, operated by Willie Mitchell, using the cream of southern session players. She continued to have hits on Westbound and then on ABC Records through the mid-1970s, including "Love Me Right" (#10 R&B, #80 pop) She continued to produce and perform live. Her co-penned song, "Married, But Not to Each Other" (#16 R&B) was included in the 1979 The Best of Barbara Mandrell, compilation album.
In the early 1980s, she signed as a singer and songwriter with Malaco Records, for whom she released a string of critically acclaimed albums over more than 20 years, starting with Lady in the Street (1983) and Right Place, Right Time (1984). Both albums became major successes among soul blues, R&B and soul fans and on urban radio stations. In 1985, she enjoyed her only recognition in the UK Singles Chart, when her cover version of Rockin' Sidney's "My Toot Toot" reached #6.
LaSalle appeared at the 1984 and 1993 versions of the Long Beach Blues Festival, and also in 1993, she performed at the San Francisco Blues Festival. Her album Smokin' In Bed (1997) sold well. After more than a decade away, when she recorded three albums with small Memphis-based soul-blues label, Ecko, she returned to Malaco for her 2010 outing called "24 Hour Woman". She continues to work as a live performer, particularly at festivals, and more recently has branched out into the gospel genre. In 2011, she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
LaSalle lived with her husband, James E. Wolfe, in Jackson, Tennessee, where she opened a restaurant called Blues Legend Café. The restaurant was located at 436 E. Main Street and has since closed.
In 2013 and 2014, LaSalle was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the 'Soul Blues Female Artist' category. On June 6, 2015, LaSalle was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
-------------------------
I wanted to put together some of my favorite Denise LaSalle music.  I could have posted a whole lot more but I tried to keep it down to five.  Here they are:
Don't Mess With My Toot Toot
The Walls Were Paper Thin
Your Husband Is Cheatin' On Us
Going Through Changes
Trapped By A Thing Called Love (live)

Denise, may you rest in heaven!

Charles Wilson - "Baby Sitter"

You have got to listen to this song!  I love it!  Charles Wilson says that he and his wife have been together for awhile and they've been working hard and taking care of the kids. In fact, since they've had kids, he said that they haven't been anywhere and he doesn't know what it's like to be alone with his wife.  He gets tickets for a blues show and says that he needs a babysitter so he and his wife can be alone.  I love a man who takes initiative and knows what he wants!! Yes!!!

This song is so true.  I believe that couples in any marriage or relationship should take time just for them.  You've got to take care of the kids and the household but it's extremely important to take are of each other.  Now that's the truth!

Thank you Roscoe Miller for letting me know the artist of this song (I was trying hard to figure it out)!😊

J Fitz - "Inbox"

This is the first song I've heard by J Fitz and it's pretty cool with a nice beat.  It's been on the top 10 charts in the Mobile, Alabama, area for a few weeks now.  It's a story about a guy who's trying to find something to do - all the clubs are closed and he really doesn't feel like going home. So, he looks to his inbox on his phone to see what's going on that night.  It's going down in his inbox...

I always love to see young southern soul talent out here!

Lomax - "Don't Leave My Wife Alone"

I love Lomax!  Now when I first heard this song, I thought it was a beautiful love song...until I listened to the words. lol  It's still a beautiful song and it is about love but the story wasn't what I expected.  It's a story about a man who got a sidepiece after he found out his wife was messing around.  So he tells his wife's man to keep doing what he's doing with his wife.  What??  He asks him to not leave his wife alone because he doesn't want to lose his girlfriend.  Well, well, well...

Sometimes life will put us in a predicament
That we never thought we would get ourselves into
And once we're there, it's so hard to get out
Instead of making change
We'd rather make that situation comfortable
And just stay right there knowing that we don't want to be there
But we don't want to leave either.

Lomax has a beautiful voice and I'm so looking forward to seeing him in concert!

It might sound like I'm begging but I really am...
