J. Blackfoot -" I Stood on the Sidewalk"

OMG!  How did I miss this awesome song??  Youtube keeps removing this song from its site but I hope it stays up long enough for you to hear it.  Beautiful.

He stood on the sidewalk and cried.

Terry Wright - "On The Back Road"

This was popular in west central Alabama.  In the chorus, Terry says:
On the back road, that’s where the party’s at
On the back road, where I can hang my hat
On the back road, a place where I can be me
On the back road, that’s the club for me

Isaac Carree - "In The Middle"

No, this isn't southern soul; it's wonderful gospel and I adore this song.  I kind of hate telling you this, but I honestly thought that Lebrado was singing.  Do their voices sound similar to you?

Lebrado - "The Trail Ride"

Talent runs in Lebrado's family and this is a great line dance song!  I even hear a little Zydeco going on.  He says that it's not the Hokey Pokey, it's not the Electric Slide, and it's not the Cupid Shuffle!  He tells you how to do the Trail Ride - get on the floor and give it a try!!

Johnnie Taylor - "Everything's Out In The Open"

Johnnie Taylor is the King of Southern Soul.  Every song he made was a good song.

Everything’s out in the open
There is nothing left to hide

I thought we had a garden of Eden
And we did before we came along
Before the fruits in the midst of the garden
Became the fruits that turned you on
Before God we were joined together
Before a judge we were taken apart
Before I delivered the papers
You and him had made a brand new start

Everything is out in the open
There is nothing left to hide

All of the vows have been broken
But I feel the same way inside
You see, just like Adam, you were my Eve
The only girl in the world for me
And just like that old story
Once again, you’ve been deceived

Before God we were joined together
Before a judge we were taken apart
Before I delivered the papers
You and him had made a brand new start

Everything is out in the open
And there is nothing left to hide

All of the vows have been broken
And I feel the same way inside
Everything’s out in the open
And there is nothing left to hide

I love him!

Theodis Ealey feat. J. Red (The Nephew) - "Keep On Dancing"

Theodis Ealey is a super talented artist and the radio stations, in my opinion, don't play enough of his wide variety of music - see my post dated 2/19/2012.  This is a great southern soul record with a really good melody and is an ideal dance song.

James Payne - "Two Places At The Same Time"

This is true southern soul, but I just don't feel sorry for this guy.

It’s been fun baby
And it’s been fair
Love that I have for you baby
I have none left to spare
Even though I love you
I can’t leave you alone
Forgive me girl, for having a love so strong

I can’t, baby, in two places at the same time
I can’t baby, be two places at the same time

My baby, she wants me for herself
But when I get home I don’t have nothing left
My woman, sweet friend of mine
I can’t leave her love
I can’t leave her till the end of time
I love my wife and my woman, too
Somebody tell me what am I supposed to do

I can’t baby, be two places at the same time
I try baby, oh I try, I try baby, yeah

Even though I love you baby
I got to leave you alone
Forgive me girl, forgive me baby
For having a love so strong
But I just can’t see having you for me
And leaving my woman alone, girl

I can’t be baby, oh no, I can’t baby, two places, two, two places
Two, oh I try baby, oh I’m trying to leave her alone
I’m trying to leave her alone
But what she’s got baby, keeps me holding on…

O. B. Buchana - "It's Over"

I am an O. B. Buchana fan!  O. B. found the woman that was just right for him and he saw his future with her.  But, she did him wrong - messing around with his friend - and I say that it's good he found out earlier than later!!!

I met the kind of girl that I want to be my wife
Tried everything that I needed
To complete my life
I’ve been over the world baby
I have never seen anything sweeter than you, no
Until you made love to my friend
And I had to cut you loose

Chorus
It’s over (it’s all over)
It’s over (it’s all over)
This relationship, (it’s all over) oh is over
(It’s all over)

I said in my mind that I love you
That we could start new
You acted good for a little while
Then you came and tried to wreck, my style
But you kissed and you touched him baby
And then your cheating got worst, yeah
Then you started staying out and night and day baby
And then you held him in your arms

Chorus

I gave you everything yeah
Everything you needed
But you want to run out with your friend, baby
And stay gone all night
I’ve never felt like this before baby
Girl, you’re breaking my heart in two yeah
But what I’ve got to do with the situation darling
I’ve got to leave you

Chorus

Enjoy!!

Jwonn - "I Got This Record"

Here is a super popular song in the south right now from a guy from Jackson, Mississippi.  It has a catchy melody and this song will get definitely under your skin, but I just think the lyrics could have been just a tee-nine-chee-bit stronger.  However, there's something about this song that I love and I am so addicted to it.

I got this record!

Terry Wright - '' I Lost My Good Thang''

I was in Possum Bend for the holidays, and this was one of the most-played southern soul songs in south central Alabama.  I LOVE it!

I done lost my good thang
I done lost my good thang

Came home this morning from a late night in the streets
Everything in my home was gone
She done finally left me
I should have known this day was coming
By the way I’ve been carrying on
But this is what can happen when you do your woman wrong
The only thing she left was a note on the bedroom door
It said don’t bother looking for me
I’m not coming back no more

Chorus
I done lost my good thang
I done lost my good thang
I done lost my good thang
I done lost my good thang

You see I got greedy, couldn’t leave well enough alone
Temptation got a hold on me
I started staying away from my home
I was trying to keep it a secret
And be real discreet
But everything I done in the dark
It came out in the street
I didn’t believe her, I didn’t think she’d go
She said if you don’t think I’m leaving
Just count the days I’m gone

Chorus

Two months later while I was out riding around
Saw my baby with another man
She was out on the town
So I pulled over and said
I don’t mean no harm
I just want to apologize
For the wrong that I’ve done
She said, you don’t have to say you are sorry
I want you to understand
If you hadn’t done me wrong
I would have never met this man

Chorus

Enjoy!!
