Daddy B. Nice

I've been going to Daddy B. Nice's site for awhile now and he is awesome. He knows so much about everything! He features different artists and has written about everyone - I am always learning a lot. He has a concert calendar, top 10 music, a recap of Southern Soul 2010, and just about everything you need to know. You can tell that he does his research and knows his stuff. Check out Daddy B. Nice's Corner at southernsoulrnb.com!

Southern Soul At The Club

I listen online to southern soul because I can't hear it like I want where I live. As much as I listen, there's nothing like going to a club or cabaret and hearing it in person. You get a totally different feel for the music. I was out last night and Make Your Body Roll by Lemorris Williams was one of the hottest songs played. I had never heard it before and the song kind of grew on me. I've been trying to find a way to listen to it online and can only find a live version on youtube. This doesn't do a lot for me so I'll let you know when I find a good video or copy of the song.

WBFZ in Selma

While I'm in Alabama, one of the stations I listen to is Z-105 or WBFZ. You can catch southern soul in the mornings (between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. CST) and some time in the afternoon. The majority of time is spent on talk shows, gospel, and rap but they play great southern soul when they play it - definitely worth listening to. Check out http://www.wbfzfmradio.com/. I don't know how long they've been online but their streaming isn't all that great just yet - it seems to be on sometimes and off others. I'll assume they're still working on it. One interesting note is that they sometimes have the studio camera turned on so you can catch the dee jays in action.

Enjoy!

The Legendary Johnnie Taylor

Johnnie Taylor is my all-time favorite southern soul artist. I was forturnate to see him a couple of times and he was a class act. He demanded perfection and his orchestra was amazing. I love his music and I probably have more Johnnie Taylor songs on my iPod than any other artist. His music is timeless and I'm sorry we lost him so soon.

I started out making a list of my favorite top ten JT songs, but ten was too hard to do so I've made it my favorite top 20! They aren't listed in any kind of order but the first five are the ones I adore.
1. Just Because
2. Doing My Own Thing
3. Doggin' Me Around
4. I Believe In You
5. Baby Sittin'
6. Aint That Loving You (For More Reasons Than One)
7. Standing In For Jody
8. Try Me Tonight
9. We're Getting Careless With Our Love
10. Body Rock
11. Ease Back Out
12. I've Got To Love Somebody's Baby
13. Love Bones
14. If I Lose Your Love
15. If You Take Your Love Away
16. Too Wise To Be Your Fool
18. I Reach For You
19. Hijackin Love
20. Running Out of Lies
Bonus: Soul Heaven

I could have listed so many more - it was hard to stop. Email me your favorites - southernsoulparadise@hotmail.com!

I Ain't Gone Do It!

I love Mel Waiters...you gonna mess around and make me throw my back out.. He's so cool. Have you ever seen him perform? He is fantastic and will turn a show out. If you ever, ever have a chance, go see Mel Waiters; he is worth it.

It's December and 2010 is just about over. Here are my ten songs for the month:
1. Whenever You Come Around - Little Milton
2. Equal Opportunity - Willie Clayton
3. Too Many Women - Denise LaSalle
4. It Ain't That Kind of Party - Karen Wolfe
5. Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett (an oldie but goodie)
6. Johnny Walker Red - Billy Ray Charles - He goes to bed with Johnny Walker Red and wakes up with a Bud Light. He can't hardly work on his job, goes to sleep standing up... Sounds rough to me!
7. Still My Love - Wilson Meadows
8. Doing My Own Thing - Johnnie Taylor - You already know I love him.
9. Tie Me - Carl Sims
10. Check to Check - Omar Cunningham

Keep listening to southern soul, it's paradise!
