Memory Lane CDs and Records, Inc. in District Heights, Maryland

I've never posted about a record store but if you're in the DC metro area and you love albums - real 33rpm albums - 45s, and cassettes, you've got to stop by Memory Lane in Forestville, Maryland.  I stopped by there to pick up my tickets for the J. Red/Jeff Floyd/Hardway Connection show that's going to be the Friday after Thanksgiving at Lamonts and walked into heaven.  I have a turntable and a decent collection of albums and found this place to be amazing. It's located in a nondescript strip shopping center off Marlboro Pike and is the kind of place you could easily miss - I have for years. Michael, one of the owners, is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and knows everything he has in the store.  And, what he doesn't have, he'll get. It is so hard to find a record store anywhere and this is one of the coolest I've seen in a long, long time.

Miss Lady Blues - "Good Thang "

This is such a really cool song! Ms. Lady Blues says that she's got a good man, Mr. Right, and he always has her back: she's talking about her good thang.  He turned her house into a home and walked her down the aisle - that's what I'm talking about!! So nice to hear a woman sing such a beautiful song of love about her man.

Carl Sims - "It's Just a Party"

My most favorite Carl Sims song of all times is "Seventeen Days of Loving" and if you go back through my blog (the easiest way is to google Southern Soul Paradise Carl Sims), you'll see that he has recorded tons of great music. "It's Just A Party" is so smooth and it showcases how versatile Carl Sims is.  This is nice and I think you'll really like it.

The Marvin Sease music he sampled for this is right on the tip of my tongue - it'll come to me soon...

O.V. Wright ~ "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled, and Crazy" ♫

I'm knocking the dust off this classic that I have adored since it was released way back in 1973.

O. V. says he'd rather be blind, crippled, and crazy, somewhere pushing up daisies (whew), then to let you break his heart all over again.  She must have put some kind of hurting on him!!

You break a man's heart and say there's nothing to it and I keep asking myself, why you want to do it!

Tyrone Davis- " I Wish It Was Me"

You ever wake up some mornings, turn on the radio, and EVERYTHING you hear is good? Oh man, I heard "I Wish It Was Me" early this morning and I've had to repeat it about ten times already. Lol Ok, I'm done.

Talking about soul music, you can hear hurt, pain, despair, sadness, envy, and yes, love, all wrapped up in "I Wish It Was Me."  You can feel all of these emotions when Tyrone sings - that's what I call a great song.

I see you every day
When you walk by this way
You go into the house next door
Stay an hour or so
Oh, I don't know
Who you're going to see
But I wish it was me you loved

Who was sharing some of your time
Oh, love
Who could call you mine, all mine
Oh, love
I said I wish it was me you loved

Oh, I saw him today
For the very first time
And when you put your arms around him
Ooh, baby, I almost went out of my mind
Cause with him, you seem so happy
Ooh, how I wished it was me
Who was making you laugh that way
Oh, love
Who was hearing those
Sweet words you had to say
Oh, love

I said I wish it was me you loved

When I saw you kiss him
Ooh, it made me feel so sad
My heart cried out in my pain, love
Oh, baby, because it hurt me so bad
But all I could do was stand there
And wish, wish it was me, love
I said I wish it was me you loved

BTW, the song stops at the 3:08 mark.
I love Tyrone Davis.

Z. Z. Hill - "Love Is So Good When You're Stealing It"

It's throwback time!  Oh, do I love this Z. Z. Hill classic.  The motel manager knows our faces but he doesn't know our real names - ha! Is this any kind of way to live our lives, for a man to live his life - with a full-time woman and a part-time wife....

I know that I'm wrong but I'm in love and don't feel a thing.
